The main advantage of plastic windows over wooden ones is high-quality thermal insulation. Therefore, PVC double-glazed windows are so popular in baths, where it is so important to minimize heat loss. At the same time, it is not difficult to install them yourself. Content:

Recently, plastic windows have become increasingly popular due to their performance characteristics. Therefore, many, engaged in the construction of a hygienic building on the site, think about whether it is possible to put plastic windows in the bath. The answer is ambiguous. In the steam room, the installation of such windows is unacceptable, since the construction of a glass unit made of artificial material does not withstand high temperatures. But for the auxiliary rooms of the bath, this is a great option.
Features of the use of plastic windows in the bath
Before deciding to install PVC double-glazed windows in a bath, you need to weigh all their advantages and disadvantages. Among the advantages of these designs:
- Reliable thermal insulation … One of the most important factors for a bath. The construction of plastic windows is designed to minimize heat loss in the room.
- Durability … The service life of windows made of artificial materials is significantly longer compared to wooden products.
- Moisture resistance … Plastic does not absorb moisture, does not deteriorate and does not become moldy at high humidity, which makes it possible to install such structures in the washing compartment.
- Ease of operation … PVC windows do not need additional treatment with antiseptics or regular painting.
- Resistant to temperature changes … A sharp increase or decrease in temperature does not in any way affect the operational properties of such windows.
- Good ventilation … The installation of such structures allows for high-quality ventilation of the bath premises.
- Strength … Unlike wooden models, plastic ones do not deform.
- Wide variety of models … To match the color and texture of the frame, you can choose the windows in the case with wood colors.
In addition, insects do not enter the plastic frame, which is also important for structures exposed to high humidity. It has excellent sound insulation characteristics.
With all the advantages, plastic windows and disadvantages are not without:
- Poor air permeability, which leads to condensation.
- An easily damaged surface, cracks and scratches on which it is impossible to remove.
- Substantial expansion range. In cold weather, there is a significant contraction of the body, in hot weather - expansion.
- Artificial PVC material is considered unsafe to health when exposed to high temperatures.
Whatever the pros and cons of plastic windows, it is better to put wooden structures in a steam room in a wooden bath.
Technology of mounting a plastic window in a bath
Installation of a PVC window in stone or brick baths does not require grooves. As for installation in a log house, here it is worth considering its shrinkage. Therefore, the final plastic structure is fixed in a wooden bathhouse several years after construction. Wooden windows can be fixed within a year due to the flexibility of the material.
Preparing for the installation of a PVC window in the bath
The market offers many models for the implementation of various design projects and in different price ranges. When choosing a plastic window for a bath, keep in mind that it is better to give preference to rectangular structures with triple glazing for better heat saving. As for the size of window structures, the optimal width is 0.6-0.8 meters, and the height is 0.4-0.6 meters.
It is desirable that the plastic window be fully opened or equipped with a window. This is necessary for high-quality drying of the room, which will increase the service life of the wooden elements in the bath.
Particular attention should be paid to fittings. It must be made of moisture resistant metal (brass, copper) so as not to corrode. These parts are usually equipped with models for installation in high humidity conditions.
Even at the construction stage, it is necessary to think over the size and placement of windows in the steam room. There is a generally accepted rule: the area of window openings should occupy about 5% of the floor area of the bath. Usually they are placed in length parallel to the floor - no higher than 1 meter from it. Otherwise, heat loss will increase.
Casing device in a bath for a plastic window
This design is an independent frame for the window unit, which is fixed to the wall with a special groove. Thanks to her, the glass unit is not damaged during the shrinkage of the frame.
The installation of the casing for the PVC window is carried out as follows:
- We cut out a groove of 25 cm on the sides of the window opening2.
- We clean the done niche from dust, wood shavings and treat with an antiseptic composition.
- We cut out a block of wood with a section of 10 cm2 and 15 cm long.
- We put a roll insulation in the hole made in the opening.
- Place a block on top of the insulating layer.
- We fix the side racks of the casing box on the bar. We use galvanized nails and self-tapping screws as fasteners, which in no case should be fixed in the wall.
- We mount the upper and lower lintels, leaving space for the heat insulator between the frame and the main wall.
- We insulate the holes near the jumpers.
- We insert a window structure into the frame.
- We attach the platbands from the outside and from the inside with galvanized nails or self-tapping screws.
If desired, you can purchase a ready-made production glued casing. Do not forget, before installing a plastic window in the bath, thoroughly soak all elements of the casing with an antiseptic.
Instructions for fixing a PVC window block in a bath
After complete shrinkage of the log house, you can not only proceed with the finishing of the premises, but also with the installation of windows. We carry out the work in this order:
- We remove the casing.
- Carefully seal the cracks that appear during shrinkage.
- We re-treat the wood with an antiseptic composition.
- We attach foil tape made of polyethylene foam to the log house and the casing box.
- We attach the window block with mounting plates or long self-tapping screws passing through a wooden box and a plastic case.
- We install the window, freeing the frame from the sash, carefully removing the pin from the upper eyelet with a screwdriver and the sash from the lower one.
- We check the position with a building level and, if necessary, correct it. You can use body kits to control vertical lines.
- We fix the box with additional fasteners. To do this, you can screw in self-tapping screws through the pre-drilled holes.
- We blow out the space between the casing and the body with polyurethane foam from the bottom up.
- After hardening, cut off the excess areas of the petrified foam.
- We firmly fix the platbands.
- We mount the ebb tide at a slope from the window opening, foaming the resulting gap under it.
It is undesirable to use the window within 16 hours after installation to preserve the integrity of the seam. Slopes need to be made for three days. How to make a casing under a plastic window in a log house - watch the video:
