Growing chrysanthemums from cuttings and seeds
Most often, these flowers are propagated in a vegetative way - by dividing a bush, by cuttings or grown from seeds. The latter method is most suitable for annual chrysanthemums.
When dividing the bush, young shoots are separated from the old spring, when the frost ends, or in early-mid-autumn, when the plant fades, or in the spring after the end of the frost. Immediately plant the young plant in the location chosen for this.
To propagate chrysanthemum by cuttings, after it has faded, bring it to winter in a cool room, where the temperature is not higher than + 6 ° C. By the spring, cuttings will begin to grow from this mother bush, they are usually harvested in March or April, and can be done in this February. One month before grafting, transfer the mother plant to a warm room where it will be at room temperature. You need to cut the cuttings from the root growth with a sharp knife, if they have grown from the old part of the bush, then these will not work. The cut should be done in the middle of the internode or under the knot.
For rooting, prepare a mixture of perlite and a small amount of sand, disinfect with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, plant the cuttings, deepen them by 2 cm. After two weeks, the roots will appear.
When the root system is sufficiently developed, the cuttings are planted in a permanent place in early May.
Chrysanthemum seeds are grown in March. The seeds are sown in a tray with moist, loose soil, covered with a plastic bag and removed to a place where the temperature is + 24– + 28 ° С. A month later, the seedlings dive, and in mid-May they are planted in a permanent place.
Chrysanthemum care
They are watered in the open field about once a week, if the weather is hot, then you can do this every three days. For better flowering, it is necessary to periodically feed the chrysanthemums. After the cuttings are rooted, water them with nitrogen fertilizer after three weeks. Repeat this dressing after 10 days. When buds appear on the plant, it is necessary to apply phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. In the same way, you need to feed chrysanthemums grown from seeds, as well as separated from the mother bush.
To form dense bushes, it is necessary to pinch the growth points of the chrysanthemum twice a season. If you live in a region with cold winters, then make a shelter for chrysanthemums in the middle to late fall. To do this, first spud the bushes with soil, mulch with peat, then cover the bushes with spruce branches.
Chrysanthemum grows in one place for three years, then it must be transplanted to another. Usually the method of dividing the bush is used for this. Chrysanthemum grows well in a warm, sunny place, on loose, slightly acidic, organic-rich soil. It does not tolerate excess moisture, therefore, expanded clay must be poured into the dug hole in order to avoid root decay. You can also use coarse sand for this.
Plant the flower in a prepared place, mulch the root zone with peat. For better root growth, loosen the soil surface in the morning after watering. If you do everything right, at the end of summer, when many plants are no longer so decorative, the chrysanthemum will delight you with bright flowers and become a worthy decoration of the site.
