Sports pharmacology has gone a long way. Athletes can now purchase a variety of progression medications. Learn about the properties of Coenzyme Q10 and its uses. A person goes through two stages in his life - growth and aging. Athletes, thanks to regular loads, are able to stay in excellent sports shape until old age. However, the state of the body after 60 years does not go in any way, in any comparison with the 20 year old.
Very often, after 30 years of age, athletes end their careers in professional sports. With each passing year, it becomes more difficult for the body to recover from training. For this reason, it is necessary to reduce the number of exercises, pain in the back and joints appears.
Of course, aging is a natural process, and it is impossible to get away from it. Sooner or later, this leads to death. However, it is not always natural. This can happen to both athletes and ordinary people.
Scientists have been studying the aging process for many years and are trying to find remedies that can stop this process and treat age-related diseases. One of the main factors of aging is now considered to be the production of ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10) in insufficient quantities. For a long time, this drug has been on sale, both in regular pharmacies and in specialized sports pharmacology stores.
When you ask the seller what the drug is for, then in response you can hear about its abilities, have a positive effect on the heart and the presence of antioxidant properties. At the same time, most experienced athletes believe that only thanks to testosterone and growth hormone can you feel younger. However, hormones are not the only ones capable of doing this. There are other aids such as Coenzyme Q10 in bodybuilding.
Features of Coenzyme Q10
Coenzyme Q10 in bodybuilding is a vitamin-like, fat-soluble substance. It is produced by all cells of the body thanks to the enzymes of the endoplasmic reticulum. It should also be noted that coenzyme has a certain amount of isoprenoids, which are lipids formed from mevalonic acid. Their number is influenced by the specificity of the species. As the name suggests, human coenzyme Q10 has ten isoprenoids, while rats, for example, have nine.
The cells of all living things have not only a nucleus, but also other formations necessary for the performance of various functions. The most famous of these are mitochondria. It is in them that the largest amount of Q10 is contained. Mitochondria are organelles that are a kind of energy station for cells. Adenosine diphosphate and phosphoric acid can only be converted to ATP in cells. Perhaps it should be recalled that ATP is a universal source of energy for all processes in the body.
Coenzyme takes an active part in the production of energy, acting as a transport for electrons. It should be noted that this discovery was awarded the Nobel Prize. It is also necessary to note another function that coenzyme Q10 performs in bodybuilding - antioxidant. Only Q10, among the fat-soluble antioxidants, is produced in the body and can be recovered from oxidized forms. This reduced form is called ubiquinol, and its main task is to protect cell membranes from damage.
Application of Coenzyme Q10
It should be noted right away that Coenzyme Q10 is completely safe for health. For this reason, the drug has no contraindications, and for the entire time of its use, not a single side effect was noted, and even more so, lethal outcomes.
The prescribed dosage of the drug is 1 milligram for each kilogram of a person's weight in mild forms of diseases, 2 milligrams in moderate diseases and 3 milligrams in severe ones. But it should also be said that in some cases, the dosages mentioned above may not bring the desired result.
For example, when treating diseases of the cardiovascular system, the amount of Q10 should be at least 3.5 micrograms per milliliter of blood. To achieve the target concentration, the dosage of the drug should be 1200 micrograms.
One study found that Q10 was effective in treating a variety of cardiovascular disorders at doses of 75–600 milligrams throughout the day. Also, there have been cases when the drug, even in the amount of 600 milligrams, did not give the desired result when treating patients who underwent surgery. In many ways, such a large dosage range is associated with the state in which the body is.
The effect of the use of Coenzyme Q10 in bodybuilding can be seen after at least a month from the moment you start taking the drug. In our country, the drug is produced in liquid form, which is more effective than powders. This is due to the faster absorption of the aqueous solution in the gastrointestinal tract.
Since Coenzyme is a fat-soluble agent, it needs to interact with fats and bile after entering the intestines. It has been scientifically proven that the fat-soluble form of the drug is the most effective, but still far from ideal. The thing is that fats, together with the substances dissolved in them, must be hydrolyzed by special enzymes before being absorbed.
This process can only take place in an aqueous environment, but fats are poorly soluble in water. As a result, the fat-soluble form of the drug turns into a suspension and is distributed in the water in the form of small drops. Thus, the area of contact of the drug with the tissues increases, which contributes to the acceleration of the effect of coenzyme on the body.
In order to achieve positive results when using Coenzyme Q10 in bodybuilding, it is necessary to take tablet forms of the drug in dosages exceeding the recommended figures from 1 to 3 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. Lower dosages are not capable of producing the desired results.
Side effects of Coenzyme Q10
Among the side effects when using Coenzyme Q10 are skin irritation, pain in the abdomen, and rapid fatigue. In addition, headaches and nausea may occur.
Depending on the characteristics of the body, allergic reactions may occur. Sports supplements such as Coenzyme Q10 may react with other drugs when used in combination. With a daily intake of Coenzyme in excess of 10 milligrams, sleep disturbance is possible. It should be noted that all of the above side effects were recorded only in the case of an overdose of the drug. When using the recommended doses, Coenzyme Q10 poses no danger to the body.
When purchasing a supplement, you should understand that there are no uniform standards for such a product. For this reason, the effectiveness of the drug from different manufacturers may differ.
