Ruddy, elegant and hearty Sunflower cake. It doesn't matter what kind of dough and filling is used. The pie can be a snack or dessert. The main thing in the recipe is the beautiful design of the baking in the form of a Sunflower flower. I made a shortbread dough. It is the most versatile, always successful and suitable for many fillings. It can be made, frozen for future use and used when needed. But the dough can be used yeast, unleavened, puff, etc. And if you don't want to cook it yourself, then generally buy a ready-made blank.
I use sausage and cheese as a filling. These are the simplest and most affordable products that do not require any preliminary preparation. You can use any filling of your choice for the cake. This can be minced meat, fried mushrooms, eggs with herbs, fruits (fresh or frozen), dried fruits, etc. If you wish, you can generally knead one dough in a double portion, from which bake two pies, one with salted, and the other with sweet stuffing. Ingredients:
- Margarine - 200 g
- Salt - a pinch
- Hard cheese - 200 g
- Flour - 250 g
- Poppy - for decoration
- Sausage (any variety) - 300 g
- Eggs - 1 pc.
- Sugar - 0.5 tsp
Step by step cooking Sunflower pie, recipe with photo:
1. Cut the cold margarine into slices and place in a food processor, in which place the “cutter knife” attachment.
2. Add eggs to margarine.
3. Pour flour through a fine sieve, salt and sugar.
4. Knead the shortbread dough. Do not knead it for too long, because it doesn't like warmth. The margarine will start to heat up and the texture of the dough will change, which will negatively affect the cake.
5. Remove the dough from the processor and shape it into a ball.
6. Wrap with cling film or bag and refrigerate for 40 minutes. At this stage, you can send it to the freezer and freeze it until the right time.
7. After this time, divide the dough into two equal parts. Use a rolling pin to roll them into a thin layer and place them in a round baking dish. Cut the free edges of the dough. In the middle of the dough, place a plate with a smaller diameter (as shown in the photo) and press down a little so that the outline remains.
8. Place the diced sausage on the dough in the middle and in a circle, leaving a clear outline from the plate.
9. Spread the grated cheese on top of the sausage.
10. Cover the filling with a second layer of dough. Trim the edges and place the same plate on top of it. Press it down so that the two layers of dough are held together. Also circle the edges of the pie.
11. At a distance of 4-5 cm, make cuts around the pie from the joints of the dough with a plate for the Sunflower petals.
12. Gently take each petal and roll it on its side with the filling up.
13. Sprinkle the whole cake with cheese shavings, and sprinkle the middle of the flower with poppy seeds. Poppy is used for decoration, but it does not add much taste. Therefore, it is not necessary to use it.
14. Heat the oven to 180 degrees and send the Sunflower Pie to bake for 30-35 minutes. Sunflower pie with shortcrust pastry cheese can be eaten warm or chilled.
