Not so long ago, jackets filled with thinsulate appeared on sale. We will tell you what kind of material it is and how to take care of such things at home. Even 20 years ago, outerwear was worn only from natural fur and leather. The clothes are frost-resistant, but no sheepskin coat will save you from the piercing wind, the mutton fur coat weighs many kilograms, and in the summer the fur product turns into a “dust collector”. Therefore, lately, outerwear has been sewn from high-tech artificial insulation: synthetic winterizer, holofiber, thinsulate. They are lightweight, good thermal insulation and pleasant appearance. Today we will talk about Thinsulate.

What is Thinsulate?

What does Thinsulate filler look like?

Thinsulate is a synthetic artificial filler that is lightweight and highly insulated. He does not hinder movements and is not demanding in leaving. It is used for sewing ski suits, overalls, winter jackets, hats, blankets and sleeping bags.

Thinsulate consists of a large number of microfibers, 10 times thinner than a human hair, which makes it possible to make a lightweight, yet thin insulation with good thermal insulation. It is a soft and pliable material with a down-like structure. However, things from it after washing do not change their shape, do not deform, and the filler does not go astray. Therefore, washing them at home is very easy.

Thinsulate properties

The main property of thinsulate is to keep warm. Due to the special structure of the fibers, the insulation has a high air filling capacity. It is 1.5 times warmer than natural fluff, which allows you to make winter clothes thinner, while they protect well from the cold. In addition, modern insulation has the following advantages:

  • Warm.
  • Thin volume of things.
  • Light weight.
  • Hypoallergenic.
  • Microorganisms do not start in it: mites and so on.
  • Does not absorb moisture from the air, which makes it ideal for warm weather in wet weather.
  • Does not cause a greenhouse effect.
  • Easy to care for.
  • Washable.
  • Keeps its shape after many washes.
  • Dries quickly.
  • Does not shrink after washing.
  • It retains its properties for a long time.
  • Undemanding care.
  • Does not need special storage conditions.
  • Frost-resistant up to -25 degrees.

It is these advantages that make thinsulate popular in the production of outerwear. However, when buying a jacket, pay attention to the label and ask for a quality certificate, since only real thinsulate has the above properties.

Disadvantages of thinsulate

There are two disadvantages of this type of insulation.

  1. High price in comparison with other materials of internal filling.
  2. Intolerance to temperature above 40 degrees. Consider this when washing and ironing.

Clothes sewn on Thinsulate can be washed by hand, automatic machine and professional dry cleaning services.

Handwash

Choose a container in accordance with the dimensions of the garment so that it lies freely in a straightened position. For adults, a bath is suitable, for children - a large basin. Fill the container with warm or slightly cool water up to 40 ° C, dissolve the liquid detergent and soak the item so that it is completely covered with water, otherwise the inner layer will not get wet. If the clothes have stains, wash them first by rubbing them with a brush. Usually these are collars, cuffs, pockets, bottom of trousers.

When the stains are washed off, beat the item a little under water and wash gently. Remove the product from the liquid and let the dirty water drain out a little. Then rinse thoroughly, dipping it several times in clean and cold water to wash out the soapy solution, which can leave streaks.

Please note that the thinsulate must not be twisted, squeezed or squeezed during and after washing.

Machine wash

If there are stubborn stains on the jacket, first wash them by hand with gel, then transfer the clothes to the washing machine. Set the delicate cycle or hand wash with a water temperature of 30–40 ° C. Pour only liquid detergent into the powder compartment. Set the spin with minimum speed, no more than 500 rpm. You can use an air conditioner, it will soften the insulation and extend its life. Turn on the additional rinse mode so that the gel is completely washed off and soap stains do not remain on things. Press the start button and the automatic wash will start.

Dry cleaning

Thinsulate well tolerates treatment with aggressive substances that are used in dry cleaners. On professional equipment, using special means, contaminated places of varying degrees will be removed from things.

Drying

After hand or machine wash, hang the garment in the bathtub or over a basin to drain off excess water. When the water stops dripping from the clothes, lay them horizontally on a towel, special dryer or ironing board for final drying. For better ventilation, you can open the windows slightly. Thinsulate dries quickly, about 3-4 hours, but sometimes the time can take 8-10 hours. It depends on the material from which the thing is sewn.

Do not dry thinsulate on radiators, heaters and near heaters where the temperature exceeds 40 ° C. Let me remind you that the insulation does not tolerate high temperatures. It is undesirable to hang the product on the balcony with clothespins. Only room temperature will preserve all the properties of the material and the original appearance of the thing.

Ironing

If there is no need for ironing, then it is best to avoid it. It is better to lay out the clothes immediately after washing as evenly as possible so that you do not have to iron. If after drying there are folds, then sprinkle the product with water from the spray bottle, straighten it and dry it again. And if you still have to use an iron, then heat it no higher than 40 ° C and guide it carefully, without pressing it to the surface.

As you can see, thinsulate is not only a unique material that retains heat well, but it is also easy to use at home. The filler is unpretentious, tolerates all types of washing well and dries quickly, while leaving a beautiful shape and appearance.
