Using felting, you can create pictures of wool, flowers, toys and many more warm, beautiful things and accessories are made from the same material. Felting is both an old and a new kind of handicraft. For a long time, felt boots and slippers were made of wool using this method. Felted toys, paintings, bijouterie, and garments are now very popular. This technique is used to make flowers and much, much more.
Wool paintings
They just breathe with coziness and warmth. Such works of art are easy to create with your own hands. The lesson calms, allows you to spend time with benefit. You can give the result of your labor for the New Year, February 23, March 8; present for a birthday, anniversary of some event.
Things and pictures can be created using the wet and dry felting technique. For the next master class, the first option is used. Dry felting for beginners is easy to master, photographs describing each step of the work will help.
To make the painting "Winter Landscape", you need to prepare the necessary tools and materials, these are:
- felting wool of various colors;
- rectangular piece of white flannel;
- picture frame with glass;
- scissors;
- tweezers.
Remove the backing from the picture frame, put it on a piece of flannel, cut an identical rectangular piece out of the fabric.
Wool paintings are created in such a way that the background of the work is laid out first. Fragments are applied to it, which as a result will be in front. As shown in the photo, tear off thin strands from a woolen ribbon of the desired color, lay them on a flannel canvas so that as a result it is not visible. Therefore, fluffy strands should completely cover the fabric.
The background of the wool painting is lit by the dim sun. To show this, wind a yellow thread around your finger, attach the heavenly body to its place. In the center of the canvas, place the threads of yellow, orange, above - blue. The bottom part is occupied by snowdrifts, so place a little more voluminous strands of wool here, also horizontally.
Use scissors to make small details. Use them to cut the brown wool into small pieces. Lay them out in the form of the base of a small house, help yourself with tweezers. Also cut up pieces of white wool and lay them down as a triangular roof. Form a pipe from a small brown piece. To make the smoke coming out of it, twist the white yarn slightly with tweezers and lay it on top.
Twist the brown strand in the same way - this is the trunk of the tree. To make it snowy, lay out the trimmed white strands on top. Shows how the photo is felted. To make a Christmas tree, trim the green and blue wool, arrange it in the shape of a tree, and place the white pieces on top.
To create the effect of falling snow, you will need a strand of the same color. Lift it up and cut it into thin pieces with scissors above the canvas. It remains to cover the wool picture with glass, cut off the protruding pieces of yarn and put the creation in a frame. Now you can hang it on the wall or give it as an unforgettable gift.
Wool bag
Wet felting is often used to create various items that must have increased durability. If you want to make a bag, then stock up on the following materials, you will need:
- wool of several colors;
- bamboo mat;
- film;
- dishwashing liquid;
- towels;
- bowl;
- vinegar;
- rubber gloves;
- rolling pin;
- bottle with lid;
- for decoration - optional - feathers, beads, rhinestones.
Spread the bubble wrap on a bamboo mat. Make small holes in the plastic bottle cap. Pour hot water and dishwashing liquid into a container. Screw the cover back on. Moisten the film through its holes, dry your hands and start wet felting, the master class will help you with this. Take a lock of wool, straighten it with your hands and lay it horizontally on the film. Place the second layer next. When the rectangle of the future bag is ready, then place the second layer of wool vertically on the first.
If you want to make the bag more dense, then you can create several layers, alternating horizontal with vertical. If you like this knapsack, then felting from a wool bag, as in the photo, provides for two layers of the main material. On top of it, put pieces of wool that will decorate the product.
Now pour the solution from a plastic bottle over the workpiece. Put another layer of film on top, also dampen it with soapy water. For a few minutes, press down on the plastic with your hand, as if massaging the fur. Do not forget to pay attention to the edges of the future bag by clicking on them.
Next, put a rolling pin on the edge of the mat closest to you, roll it up. And in this way, moving from yourself and towards you, you need to roll at least 50 times.
Now carefully turn the resulting felt together with the film 90 ° and roll it 50 more times. Turn it again 90 °, roll it again the same number of times, turn the canvas over again and finish the procedure with the same manipulations. This is how the bag felting happens, but the work is not yet complete.
Remove the bubble wrap, soak the resulting felt again with soapy water from the bottle. If it already doesn't foam well, add some more dish soap.
To make the process faster, it is better to prepare a new solution by pouring boiling water. Then you need a container that does not deform from high temperature water. Wear rubber gloves to avoid scalding. Pour hot water into a bowl, place the blank of a wool bag in it. Press and unclench it several times. Then rinse in cold water with a couple of drops of vinegar added. You have got a high-quality canvas that you can cut at your own discretion and sew a bag out of it. But first dry it with towels.
This is how the wool master class helped to create an original work, a design product that no one else has.
Felting wool toys
Small children will surely like this gift. To create it, little is needed, namely:
- sponge;
- felting needle;
- wool of white, black and orange colors;
- thimbles;
- a piece of padding polyester.
Felting needles are often required for this type of needlework. They come in different sizes, the larger the number indicating the needle, the thinner it is. To avoid injuring the fingers of the hand free from the needle, wear thimbles on them.
To make the felt toy lightweight, we will use a synthetic winterizer. Take a voluminous strand of white wool, form a rectangle out of it, cut off the excess. Put a piece of padding polyester inside, cover it with the same piece of white wool.
Now start the felting or felting process. It consists in piercing the material with a needle. In this case, you need to do this many times until the workpiece turns into a part of the desired density and size and the holes from the needle pricks are not visible.
Turning this blank into an oval, you began to create the body of the penguin. Leave the tummy white, and in place of the back and sides it is necessary to filter black wool. The toy will get a beautiful shirt-front if you roll a piece of orange wool in the upper part of the oval.
The animal's beak will help create wet felting. Wet your palms with warm water, lather them with soap, roll a piece of black wool, giving it the shape of a beak. Now, using a needle, roll this piece to the head, decorate with orange wool. This same tool will help you attach the penguin wing.
Now you need to attach the head to the body of the penguin. To do this, filter in a circle, sticking the needle obliquely so that it grabs the top of the body and the bottom of the head at the same time. Felting from wool should be carried out until the head is firmly attached to the body.
The penguin needs to make paws. To do this, shape the wool on a trefoil sponge and felle with a needle. Use the same tool to attach one and the other legs to the penguin. This is how wool toys are made. For beginners, such a creation is easy to create, like the following.
Artistic Wool Patch
The felting technique for creating such a beautiful decoration is very simple. A cute heart can be attached to clothes, thereby extending the wearing period. For work, prepare:
- wool for felting;
- foam sponge;
- felting needles;
- shape in the form of a heart.
If the sleeve of the sweater has been rubbed, to make an artistic patch, insert foam rubber between its two panels. Place the heart-shaped mold on top. If you don't have one, you can use another one. Using small strands of wool, distribute them inside the mold. The layer should be the same thickness on all sides.
Holding the felting needle vertically, from the edges to the middle, begin to pierce the surface on which you are making a soft appliqué. When the heart felts a little, remove the mold and continue felting without it. If you need to add some wool, do so.
Take the foam sponge out of the sleeve, iron the applique with an iron, sprinkling it with water, setting it to the “wool” setting. Thus, you can decorate a bag, children's clothes, slippers, wool toys.
Use this fertile material to make pansies, turning them into a fashion accessory.
Felting flowers
It also begins with the preparation of the necessary. For a fun creative process you will need:
- blue, yellow, black wool;
- felting needles No. 38, 36, 40 and star needle No. 38;
- substrate.
You can use a felting brush, foam sponge, or styrofoam as a backing. Keep in mind that felting will make the details smaller, so you need to make them a little larger first. Separate a lock from the blue wool, roll it into a ball, give it the shape of a petal.
Take a number 38 needle, stepping back slightly from the edge of the workpiece, and with this tool, work in the direction from top to bottom and at an angle. Be careful not to press hard on the instrument, as the needles are very fragile and may break. Flip the petal over to the wrong side and filter it with a needle in the same way.
You need to make 4 such blanks, and the fifth one is a little larger. Give it a heart-shaped shape.
Place a piece of yellow wool in the center of the petal. Separate some thin order from black wool, weld as shown in the photo. Use a 40 gauge needle for this.
Add black strands to the edge of the petal. Roll yellow wool to the bottom of the largest one, and white wool to the rest. Now begin to collect the petals together by punching them first with a # 36 needle and then # 38.
The wool felting technique leads to the next step. When the flower is connected, work through its surface with a thin finishing needle so that it becomes uniform and dense.
