If you want everything to be bright and cheerful, pay attention to yarnbombing. This street knitting technique is a kind of graffiti, but not dye, but yarn is used for it.

Yarnbombing is a relatively new trend in knitting. It is akin to street graffiti, but is made of knitwear and threads. Various knitting techniques are used to transform trees, unsightly pipes, decorate cars and buses.

What is yarnbombing?

This word consists of two. Translated from English "yarn" means "knit", and "bombing" is one of the directions of graffiti.

This art arose just a few years ago, more precisely in 2005. The American Magda Sayeg had her own shop in the countryside, as they say, even several, where they sold handicraft goods. The woman decided to decorate the tree trunks near him with sweaters knitted especially for them.

This hobby was supported by residents of nearby settlements and began to decorate in this way not only trees, but also road signs, benches, pipes, bottles.

The Mexicans really liked this idea, and they even dressed buses and cars. For this, not only knitted, but also woven fabric was used.

In 2009, the Canadian Lynn Preyn and Mandy Moore, who were fascinated by this new art, published a book in which they shared the technique of street knitting, and as it is also called yarnbombing.

Seeing how urban objects are transformed with the help of yarn, passers-by smile, and such art cheers up. Activists gather like-minded people and decorate parks and squares so that even in a dull winter, objects here look bright and unusual.

In Russian kindergartens, contests are sometimes held when educators together with their children transform nearby trees. Check out one of these.

To make such a fun street sculpture, take:

  • a lot of colored yarn;
  • a needle with a large eye;
  • crochet hook;
  • knitting needles;
  • scissors;
  • felt.

The yarnbombing technique is that at home you need to knit a rectangular canvas, and then on the street attach it to a tree and sew the edges, taking a needle with a thick eye and a strong thread. Crochet or knit a canvas, first from pink fabric, then attach a raspberry thread here and make a fragment from it. Use light green, white, orange, blue and other bright colors.

Knit in such a way that later there will be no difficulties when you put this vest on a tree trunk. Therefore, it should not be too high.

Sew circles to the canvas, which you will turn into eyes and a nose. From red and white felt you will sew a smiling mouth and reattach it in the same way. Make fluffy tassels from the threads and sew them as hair.

When you go outside, you will need to attach the finished canvas to the selected object and seam the two halves over the edge on the back of the vest.

If you want to knit as soon as possible, then use large diameter plastic knitting needles or a large hook. With these tools, you can make the next outfit for the tree.

You can teach preschool children to knit by showing them hosiery. To do this, they should only use front loops. Each child can knit in a specific color. Then they will then see the fruits of their labor at the finished object. Sew this vest on the tree. To decorate it, you can cut an oval out of plastic and paint it so that it turns into a face. Attach yarn or cellophane hair here.

To make handles, attach to a knitted vest along the wire, which must be tied first. And you will cut your palms out of felt or from another material.

Garbage bags can be used for the next object. You can also knit from them. Another option is to cut such material into strips and wrap trees with it, alternating between yellow and black colors. Create a muzzle and a tail and you will have a funny cat.

To create such a complex, take:

  • yarn;
  • two plastic canisters;
  • knife;
  • scissors;
  • hook;
  • knitting needles.

In this technique, you can knit without even using knitting needles and a hook. To do this, you need to make a loop at the end of the thick thread, stick your hand here and pull out a new loop with your hand, make it out of the thread.

This second loop will now become the main loop. Pull the next piece of thread into it with your hand and make a third loop. Thus, tie a fragment of the desired size with your hands. And to make a bird feeder, cut out such large windows on the four sides of the plastic canister. Now crochet the top and bottom, and wrap the resulting plastic columns with threads or strips of knitted fabric.
