If you want everything to be bright and cheerful, pay attention to yarnbombing. This street knitting technique is a kind of graffiti, but not dye, but yarn is used for it.
Yarnbombing is a relatively new trend in knitting. It is akin to street graffiti, but is made of knitwear and threads. Various knitting techniques are used to transform trees, unsightly pipes, decorate cars and buses.
What is yarnbombing?
This word consists of two. Translated from English "yarn" means "knit", and "bombing" is one of the directions of graffiti.
This art arose just a few years ago, more precisely in 2005. The American Magda Sayeg had her own shop in the countryside, as they say, even several, where they sold handicraft goods. The woman decided to decorate the tree trunks near him with sweaters knitted especially for them.
This hobby was supported by residents of nearby settlements and began to decorate in this way not only trees, but also road signs, benches, pipes, bottles.
The Mexicans really liked this idea, and they even dressed buses and cars. For this, not only knitted, but also woven fabric was used.
In 2009, the Canadian Lynn Preyn and Mandy Moore, who were fascinated by this new art, published a book in which they shared the technique of street knitting, and as it is also called yarnbombing.
Seeing how urban objects are transformed with the help of yarn, passers-by smile, and such art cheers up. Activists gather like-minded people and decorate parks and squares so that even in a dull winter, objects here look bright and unusual.
In Russian kindergartens, contests are sometimes held when educators together with their children transform nearby trees. Check out one of these.
Knitting graffiti yarnbombing - a master class with a photo
To make such a fun street sculpture, take:
- a lot of colored yarn;
- a needle with a large eye;
- crochet hook;
- knitting needles;
- scissors;
- felt.
The yarnbombing technique is that at home you need to knit a rectangular canvas, and then on the street attach it to a tree and sew the edges, taking a needle with a thick eye and a strong thread. Crochet or knit a canvas, first from pink fabric, then attach a raspberry thread here and make a fragment from it. Use light green, white, orange, blue and other bright colors.
Knit in such a way that later there will be no difficulties when you put this vest on a tree trunk. Therefore, it should not be too high.
Sew circles to the canvas, which you will turn into eyes and a nose. From red and white felt you will sew a smiling mouth and reattach it in the same way. Make fluffy tassels from the threads and sew them as hair.
When you go outside, you will need to attach the finished canvas to the selected object and seam the two halves over the edge on the back of the vest.
If you want to knit as soon as possible, then use large diameter plastic knitting needles or a large hook. With these tools, you can make the next outfit for the tree.
You can teach preschool children to knit by showing them hosiery. To do this, they should only use front loops. Each child can knit in a specific color. Then they will then see the fruits of their labor at the finished object. Sew this vest on the tree. To decorate it, you can cut an oval out of plastic and paint it so that it turns into a face. Attach yarn or cellophane hair here.
To make handles, attach to a knitted vest along the wire, which must be tied first. And you will cut your palms out of felt or from another material.
Garbage bags can be used for the next object. You can also knit from them. Another option is to cut such material into strips and wrap trees with it, alternating between yellow and black colors. Create a muzzle and a tail and you will have a funny cat.
So that children can send a letter to Santa Claus, together with them you need to decorate a tree trunk, and then attach a small mailbox here, which will say that this is Santa Claus's mail. Of course, the image of a snowman would be appropriate here. Crochet a circle of white yarn and attach the eyes, nose and mouth here. Sew on a red cap and a small striped scarf.
If adults engage in this kind of contemporary art, they can use ladders to tie not only trunks, but also tree branches.
These representatives of the flora immediately began to play with new colors. If you know how to crochet round napkins, then do a few of these. When you come to the tree, you will need to sew them together to form a single openwork fabric.
Even an unsightly tree stump can be transformed by styling it the same way.
If you have scarves at home and no one wears them, then you can wrap tree trunks with these knitwear and sew the ends together.
In addition to knitted fabrics, trees can be decorated with pom-poms made from leftover threads.
If you manage to gather a lot of enthusiasts, then you can turn an entire alley or part of the park into such a bright colorful corner.
You can see how others do it by watching the video at the end of the article. Until then, check out some other cool street graffiti ideas.

A flirty beret can be worn on a pipe, on a lid from an urn or from a sewer well.
Such a hat is crocheted as usual. But it is larger than the usual beret. Someone wanted to dress up sculptures. If they are not much different from the size of people, then you can use hats and scarves for them that are no longer worn.
In skillful hands, even a boring gray pillar will sparkle in a new way. It is enough to tie it and sew flowers from yarn, fabric bows to this canvas.
Knit graffiti will transform the handrails. They are also tied up, and only then the edges of the canvas are fastened in place, taking yarn and a needle.
If it is not possible to decorate all the railings, then you can knit a small canvas and decorate only part of them. Even old wooden blocks will be transformed and will allow the railings to sparkle with new colors.
If a fragment of the anchor chain seemed too boring to you, then tie the canvas at home, having previously measured it. Already in place, you can sew it to the circle by connecting the ends. And step by step photos show how to do it.

It is interesting to transform chairs using knitting graffiti. If you have one on the street, then knit knitted parts for its elements, and then attach them with a thread and a needle.
Gatherings on the street will be more interesting if you decide to bring your chair here in order to spend time comfortably and at the same time boast about what kind of needlewoman you are.
If you have a lot of yarn and you want to make your car unusual, then you can tie it in the same way.

How to knit feeders - yarnbombing workshop
To create such a complex, take:
- yarn;
- two plastic canisters;
- knife;
- scissors;
- hook;
- knitting needles.
In this technique, you can knit without even using knitting needles and a hook. To do this, you need to make a loop at the end of the thick thread, stick your hand here and pull out a new loop with your hand, make it out of the thread.
This second loop will now become the main loop. Pull the next piece of thread into it with your hand and make a third loop. Thus, tie a fragment of the desired size with your hands. And to make a bird feeder, cut out such large windows on the four sides of the plastic canister. Now crochet the top and bottom, and wrap the resulting plastic columns with threads or strips of knitted fabric.
You will have a wonderful tree that will appeal not only to adults and children, but also to birds. Leave the food in bowls to avoid collecting it all over the birdhouse.
