Warming of the veranda walls, materials used, work planning and preparation of structures, technologies for their external and internal thermal insulation. In general, it turns out like this: the better ventilation and heating are organized in the building, the farther south the region of its location, the warmer and thicker the walls, the higher the probability of successful insulation of the veranda from the inside.

The result of planning the upcoming work should be the following scheme: glazing of openings with subsequent insulation of windows, insulation of walls, insulation of the ceiling and floor.

Before insulating the walls of the veranda from the inside, you need to purchase the necessary materials, stock up on tools, and also seal doors and windows.

The set of tools should include: a building level, a pencil and a tape measure, an electric jigsaw, a hacksaw and a screwdriver, a construction knife and a stapler, brushes and a paint roller. In addition to the selected insulation, you will need: polyurethane foam, a wooden beam, a vapor barrier film, a protective wood preservative, staples for a stapler and self-tapping screws, chalk, plaster of paris and a door seal.

If double-glazed windows are installed on the veranda, then they do not need sealing. In ordinary windows, it is necessary to process not only the joints of the frames, but also glass sheets, especially if they are single. First, you should seal the glasses themselves with an energy-saving film. This requires a household hairdryer and double-sided tape. On the upper edge of the glass sheet, you need to stick a strip of tape, remove the protective insulation from it and fix the edge of the film.

Then, gradually pressing the film against the glass, you should direct the flow of hot air from the hair dryer to its surface. This will ensure a tight connection between the film and glass surfaces. The other edge of the film must be fixed at the bottom with the same strip of tape. Energy saving foil can also be used to close the entire window. To do this, it will be necessary to pull it between the slopes of the window opening. The joints of the window frames are sealed with a special solution. To prepare it, you need to take stucco and chalk in a 2: 1 ratio. Slowly adding water to their dry mixture, bring the solution to a thick consistency by stirring.

The prepared composition should be applied with a spatula to the joints of window frames. After 10 minutes, the mixture will dry out a little. Then you need to walk over the putty with a cloth soaked in water and rolled up, leveling it. When spring comes, you just need to open the window sashes, and the dried putty will disappear from them, without causing harm to the covering of the frames.

Another way to seal windows is to use a rubber seal. This work is more complicated. It will require a secure gasket attachment and fitting of the hinges of the window sashes in order to ensure their tight closure. To prevent cold air from entering the veranda room through the cracks in the door frame, it is necessary to seal the joints. The easiest way is to glue the seal along the inner perimeter of the door block. For this purpose, a rubber tubular seal is suitable, which has a self-adhesive base.

The door leaf can simply be insulated with batting or other material. To do this, the canvas must be removed from the hinges, and then laid horizontally on the floor or some kind of support, for example, several stools or a table. First, along the perimeter of the removed door from its outer side, it is necessary to fill the protruding rollers, which will serve as additional protection against drafts. After that, the entire canvas must be upholstered with insulation using staple staples or small nails.

After the completion of the preparatory work, you can begin to insulate the walls of the veranda using the frame method, which is the most reliable in terms of strength and due to its versatility. Its use allows you to work with any heaters and use many decorative finishing materials for subsequent cladding.

Thermal insulation of the veranda walls from the inside

Work on the internal insulation of the walls of the veranda should begin with the installation of the frame. It can be made of wood or metal. The wooden frame is made of bars or slats, the metal frame is made of a special galvanized profile, which is often used for the installation of plasterboard structures.

The technology for installing frames of both types is almost the same, therefore, for example, consider the "wooden" version of the lathing:

  • The installation of such a frame must begin with the installation of the upper and lower wooden blocks. After that, the wall space between them should be filled with intermediate bars, placing them with a step of 500-600 mm. All of them are installed horizontally.
  • The cross-section of the timber should be selected depending on the thickness of the insulation and the number of its layers. For example, if the thickness of the insulation is 50 mm, then the section of the timber should be 50x50 mm. Before installing on the walls, the timber must be treated with an antiseptic. It will protect the wood from mold and decay. It is recommended to choose mineral wool as a heat-insulating material for internal insulation.
  • The frame can be fastened to the supporting structure using dowels, a screwdriver, self-tapping screws and a hammer drill. The method of fixing the beams to the wall depends on the material of its manufacture. When working with brick or concrete walls, it is difficult to do without a punch and dowels, and for mounting the battens on wooden structures, for example, such a tool will be clearly superfluous. Here, a screwdriver and wood screws are enough.
  • The horizontal installation of the timber on the walls should be controlled by the building level. The width of the frame cells must be selected in accordance with the dimensions of the insulation plates. For dense stacking of slabs, the cell opening can even be reduced by 2-3 mm.

When installing the insulation in the cells of the frame, there should not be any slots and holes. The material must be laid entirely, and the excess must be cut off. After installing the thermal insulation material in the crate, it is necessary to stretch the vapor barrier film on it. Its canvases should be fastened with an overlap of 100 mm to the frame beams using staples and a stapler. All joints of the film should be glued with metallized tape. This procedure will protect the insulation from moisture.

The last stage of insulating the walls of the veranda from the inside is the installation of the frame sheathing. It protects its contents and performs a decorative function at the same time. For cladding, you can use gypsum plasterboard, PVC and MDF panels, plastic and wooden lining.

Advice! To improve the quality of insulation, it is recommended to install a heat-reflecting foam foam gasket between the heat-insulating material and the wall before installing the frame.

External insulation of the veranda
External insulation of the veranda

External insulation of the veranda walls can be performed using frameless technology. For work, you will need: foam plastic with a thickness of at least 50 mm, Ceresit glue for fixing it, fiberglass mesh, metal toothed spatula, corners with perforation for corners and slopes, plastic dowels-umbrellas for attaching foam.

Before installing thermal insulation on the walls of the veranda, it is necessary to install support starting profiles along its perimeter. They are mounted in a strictly horizontal position, mark the lower boundary of the insulation and serve as a support for the first rows of foam, protecting them from slipping immediately after being glued to the walls. The step of fixing these profiles with dowels is 300 mm. After completing this stage of work, you can proceed directly to the insulation of the walls of the veranda.

First, you need to prepare a mixture for sticking foam sheets on the walls. Instructions for its use are on the packaging of the material. The dry powder is diluted with water and mixed until the solution is homogeneous. The pot life of the mixture is 2 hours, so it is not recommended to cook it in large portions.

The finished adhesive must be applied to the foam sheet and wall using a notched trowel. The installation of the insulation should start from the bottom, resting the first row of sheets on the starting profiles. There should be no gaps between the cladding elements. The next row of sheets should be stacked vertically with bandaging seams, ideally in a checkerboard pattern. After pasting all the walls of the veranda, you need to wait 2-3 days required for the glue to polymerize under the insulation.

The next step is to attach the foam sheets to the walls with plastic umbrella dowels. To do this, through the insulation, you need to make holes in the walls and hammer the fasteners into them with a rubber hammer. After carrying out this procedure, the wide heads of the dowels should fit snugly to the surface of the sheets. Each foam board should be fixed in the corners and in the center at the rate of 6-8 dowels per 1 m2 insulation.

At the last stage of wall insulation on the veranda, it is necessary to perform a protective coating of thermal insulation. For this, a special mesh made of fiberglass is used. It needs to be glued to the surface of the insulation using a special glue, which is slightly different in composition from the one that was used when gluing the foam plates to the walls. After the mixture has dried, the finished surface should be sanded with emery paper or with an abrasive fine mesh.
