The choice of material for the door to the bath
Hardwood is considered the best material for doors. Wood withstands moisture, tolerates temperature changes well, is easy to process, and does not transmit heat well. Experienced bath attendants advise the following:
- Give preference to hardwoods that are considered bathing - linden, larch, aspen. Linden boards are considered the best option, since when heated they smell good and have healing properties.
- Resin appears on pine boards in a hot room, and it is risky to touch this mass. Therefore, do not use coniferous boards in the sauna.
- Find out the moisture content of the workpieces, the maximum moisture content is 12%. Do not buy boards with knots - such blanks dry out quickly and the knots fall out.
- For the canvas, purchase grooved boards, they are preferable to ordinary ones. Make sure the boards fit without gaps and that there is no play. For canvas, buy thick boards, more than 25 mm thick, to reduce heat loss.
- For the door frame, beams with a cross section of at least 50x50 mm are required.
Selection of fittings for a bath door
Features of the choice of fittings for the door installed in the bath:
- The best hinges that hold wooden bath doors are brass.
- When choosing hinges, keep in mind that the doors must always open into the courtyard.
- The locking mechanism must be installed from the inside. Put two locks, above and below, they will ensure a good tightness of the room. Do not use latches.
- Place wooden handles and locks to avoid burns. It is allowed to install an iron hook at the bottom.
Determining the size of the door to the bath
The doors are lower and narrower than the entrance apartments, so that when the room is opened it cools less. Height - 1, 5-1, 8 m, width - from 0, 65 to 0, 70 m. The threshold at the entrance is high - 100-150 mm. High thresholds protect the sauna from cold air. The height of the door consists of the length of the boards and the thickness of the frame beams. Manufacturing of a bath door leaf
Pre-assemble the sheet from grooved boards, the dimensions of the workpiece should be large design dimensions. Check for gaps in the joints. Apply the dimensions of the doors to the canvas. The height of the rectangle is 143 cm (with a total height of the product of 150 cm), the width is 70 mm less than the total width.
Disassemble the canvas, cut along the marks, apply glue to the joints and reassemble. The canvas should dry for 2-3 days. Check the quality of the surface of the blade, eliminate irregularities.
Make a door frame from the bars. Two vertical bars should be 150 mm high (total door height), horizontal bars should be 70 mm less than the intended width. On the inner perimeter of the beams, select a groove for installing the canvas. Vertical and horizontal beams should be connected to each other using spikes and grooves, so make stepped spikes on horizontal beams with a cutter, and grooves with similar dimensions on vertical beams.
Treat the canvas and frame blanks with a special compound that protects the wood from decay. Lubricate all joints with glue. Place the bars on the canvas and press firmly. Fasten the bars together with self-tapping screws.
Making a door frame for a bath
Make a box of 100x100mm beams. To connect the beams, make spikes and grooves of the same size in them. Route the timbers where the doors will enter. The dimensions of the groove must be such that, after installation, the door enters with a gap of 5 mm. Clearances are necessary so that the door does not wedge when the wood swells.
Bath door installation
Install the manufactured box into the wall opening and fix it. Attach the hinges to the door, bolt handle. Place the door in the box and hinge. Insulate the door. Check the correct manufacturing of the door - the product should open with slight resistance. Jamming is not allowed.
