  • Lightly salted herring - 1 pc.
  • Vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Onions - 1-2 pcs. depending on the size
  • Bread - 4 large slices
  • Table vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 tsp

1. Peel the onions, wash under running water and chop into thin half rings.

2. Place onion in a deep bowl, add vinegar and pour boiling water over. Leave to marinate for 15 minutes. Boiling water will remove the sharp bitterness from the onion and make it tender.
