In order to pour water on the stones, you need a scoop with a horizontal handle. In this case, the shape of the container determines the type of oven. As a rule, scoops are made of such types of wood as aspen, oak, linden. Finished products are impregnated with linseed oil, wax. Wooden scoops look organic in the bath, when heated, they transfer a light aroma of wood to the water. Wooden bath scoops are usually made by professional master coopers. Most often they are hollowed out in a solid piece of wood.
- Metal … Such fixtures are durable and practical, although not as common as wooden ladles. For the manufacture of a bath accessory, stainless metals are used - steel, brass, copper. However, metal is known to conduct heat well. Therefore, it is not recommended to use a steel or copper scoop for a bath directly in the steam room. As a last resort, such a product should be equipped with a long wooden handle.
- Plastic … This is the most economical material that is used to make scoops. Modern plastics are resistant to high temperatures, so there are no contraindications for using such products in the bath. Heat-resistant plastic is not afraid of hot steam or boiling water, however, in a steam room, a plastic product will not look aesthetically pleasing and fall out of the general concept. Such scoops are rarely used. Alternatively, on sale you can find scoops in which a plastic "cup" is inserted into a wooden base. This is a practical container, which, moreover, will not look ridiculous in a bath.
Do not experiment with glassware in the bath. The glass heats up quickly, slips, breaks easily.
Diy wooden scoop for a bath
If you have at least basic carpentry skills and a certain set of tools, then you can try to make a scoop for a bath with your own hands. Consider the process of making a wooden scoop with a horizontal handle from a single piece of wood. Its design is not too complicated, so with a little practice and patience, even a beginner can handle it.
The main thing is to follow the instructions:
- We prepare a log of suitable size. It should be well dried. Split or saw it in half into a couple of even pieces.
- On one of the halves of the log, we draw the outline of the future product with a simple pencil. It will be easier to do this using a paper pattern.
- Cut out a scoop along the contour with a hacksaw on a tree from a half of a log.
- Using a small hatchet, we cut off sharp corners and edges and form the rough shape of the future product.
- With a hatchet, create an angle of inclination on the side where the recess of the scoop will be located, and then at the base of the handle.
- We round off with a file the place where the scoop goes into the handle.
- We put sandpaper on the stick and "modify" the place near the handle.
- Round off and cut out the outer shape of the scoop using a rough rasp. We also round off the handle with it. After that we grind everything with sandpaper.
- Cut out a recess in the scoop using a semicircular chisel. At the same time, we check the thickness so as not to make the product too thin.
- The inner part of the scoop is "finalized" with sandpaper. It is best secured to a small, rounded block.
Once sanding is complete, the scoop should be reworked to improve its performance. To do this, you can put it in warmed vegetable oil for a while. This will protect the scoop from moisture, and it will not "frizzy". A mixture of linseed oil and wax can also be used as a treatment composition.
Rules for the care of wooden ladles in the bath
Wooden scoops for a bath, like other wooden accessories, need special care.
In order for the products to serve for a long time and not lose their appearance, take into account:
- A new scoop should be filled with cold water for several hours.
- After using the scoop, wash it with baking soda, mustard and scald with boiling water.
- Dry the scoops in a ventilated area or outdoors. Just don't put them in direct sunlight. It is also not recommended to dry cooperage products near a hot stove.
