The article describes methods for planting raspberry bushes in the spring. Where to place it correctly and how to bury it. Raspberry planting methods and other useful information. Raspberry planting is carried out in autumn and spring, the planting technique is practically the same, the main thing is to follow the agrotechnology correctly. Raspberries are planted in two ways - in a hole and in a trench. The approach to this depends on individual needs. For planting in a hole, a depth of 35-40 cm and a width of up to 50 cm are needed. The trench is made of the same depth and width, it is desirable to place it in the north-south direction. This arrangement provides the greatest illumination of the plant during the day.
The distance between the trenches, if there are several of them, should be about 1.5 - 1.8 meters. The bottom of both pits and trenches is filled with a nutrient mixture, you can buy it in the store, or make it yourself. To do this, it is necessary to mix the top fertile soil layer with humus and double superphosphate, it is effective and does not contain impurities of heavy metals. But you can do without fertilizers if you have enough fertile soil. Within reasonable limits, it is recommended to add wood ash, from which the berries become tastier.
Raspberries love a lot of light and warmth, so they should be placed on a sunny part of the site protected from cold winds. In the shade, the shoots are strongly stretched and the fertile buds on them may die next winter. We don't want to lose our crops, do we?
Raspberries love moderately moist soil, but not as much as, for example, currants, otherwise waterlogging threatens again with excessive stretching of the shoots. Seedlings are placed at a distance of 65 - 70 cm, two bushes in each hole, they can be planted in a trench one at a time at a distance of 30 cm.
A very convenient way to plant raspberries on a trellis, like grapes. At both ends of the trench, hammer on the post and pull the ropes, preferably steel wire. While the seedlings are small, one wire is pulled at a height of one meter. Shoots are tied to it, placing them 10 cm apart from each other, if it turns out too thick, the shoots must be thinned out, leaving the strongest. Next year, you need to pull more wire at levels of 35 cm and 1.5 meters. Annual shoots will be tied to the lowest wire in the fall, for this they must be carefully bent. For a successful planting, seedlings with two or three shoots of medium thickness and a developed healthy root system are selected. If the purchased seedlings are not immediately planted in the ground, you need to cover them with a wet cloth, or temporarily dig in them so that the roots do not dry out. When the bush is lowered to the bottom of a hole or trench and buried, it must be shaken so that the space between the roots is filled with earth. It is not recommended to excessively deepen the bush into the soil, this can greatly delay its growth, and a shallow planting can lead to drying out of the basal buds. The best option is when the root collar of the bush, after watering and shrinking the soil, is located at the same level with the ground. To prevent the soil from drying out and crusting after watering, it must be compacted with your feet and mulched. Sawdust, compost, humus, peat are used as mulch. If this is not the case, you can use cardboard, which is also a good means of retaining moisture.
After the seedlings are planted, they must be pruned. Pruning is carried out at a height of 30-40 cm from the ground, buds are left that have not yet grown. With such pruning, the best survival rate of the seedling is ensured.
If all the recommendations are followed correctly, your patience and attention will be rewarded with an excellent raspberry harvest. Also read the article about raspberry cultivation, care, pruning and preparation for winter.
