Advice to craftsmen on what finishing work can be done in winter in an unheated room, and which is better to postpone until spring. The construction of a residential building is a long and laborious process. In this case, many people start to worry about a reasonable question: what kind of work can be carried out without risk in an unheated room in winter?

In winter, in an unheated house, you can safely lay water pipes or do electrical work. When carrying out these communications, a test run of the water supply system can be carried out without leaving the pipes filled with water. Otherwise, the pipes may simply burst.

In winter, linoleum can be laid in the house using glue that is resistant to low temperatures (this parameter is indicated on the label). In the cold season, you can still prepare structures for plasterboard structures - make metal profiles, conduct wiring there. Drywall cannot be mounted in winter, since this material absorbs moisture and can then swell, wait until spring, or better summer.

It is also better to use plaster in a warm room. If you urgently need to plaster the surface, then a special solution against frost (hydrochloric acid, potash, calcium chloride) is added to the composition.

Using building materials in winter, you must strictly observe the conditions of the temperature regime that is necessary for them. Temperature conditions are usually indicated on the packaging. Some materials are strictly forbidden to be used in unheated rooms. These include cement mixtures, water-dispersive paints, and other paints and varnishes. If the material is based on water, even in small quantities, then at low temperatures it will definitely deteriorate - it will acquire cracks and irregularities.

If finishing work is necessary, then the room temperature can be artificially raised to the required parameters. For this, you can use various air heaters or heat guns.

The room begins to warm up a couple of days before the start of construction work. Forty hours will be enough for the walls to warm up, excess moisture comes out of them. After the end of the work, the heat gun is left on for another two weeks to allow the material to dry properly. If you stop warming up immediately after the end of the work, then everything will have to be redone - the wallpaper will peel off, ceilings and other surfaces will crack. It is allowed to glue wallpaper only at temperatures above +5 degrees. Wallpaper glue does not tolerate frost and sudden changes in temperature conditions. Plastering and filling walls in winter can only be done with a heat gun. Remember that the layer of plaster in the cold season should be minimal. The solution itself must be warm. Set aside wall covering with decorative plaster and other exclusive works until the first warm days.

Laying laminate and parquet flooring in winter in unheated houses is not recommended. Moisture accumulates, after which the boards can deform and delaminate. Tiles can only be laid at a temperature of +10 degrees. The quality of masonry in a cold room deteriorates significantly, moreover, the hardening time is doubled.

In an unheated room in winter, it is quite possible to install a stretch ceiling made of polyester fabric. This material feels great even during frost and does not change its properties. It is undesirable to use other materials at this time of the year.

Installation of plastic windows is permissible at any time of the year. True, in the cold they use special polyurethane foam. Seals and profiles can lose their elasticity at low temperatures, which increases the difficulty of installing the window frame.
