The recipe for meat in French, both with and without potatoes, came to us in Soviet times, and immediately gained popularity due to its excellent taste. Like Olivier salad, herring under a fur coat or vinaigrette, this dish was mainly baked for the festive table. Since absolutely everyone loves meat and potatoes, and regardless of taste preferences. Nowadays, French meat is prepared not only for the arrival of guests, but also on ordinary weekdays for everyday dinners. It's very simple, tasty and fast.
Of course, meat and potatoes can be cooked separately, then you get two different dishes. But when they are baked together, they turn out to be much tastier and more spectacular. Any meat can be used - pork, beef, lamb, chicken, etc. The main thing is that it is fresh and of high quality. The most common mistake of many housewives is the use of meat that is not completely defrosted. And also it cannot be cut into too thin slices, because it will be dry.
You should also follow the sequence of laying out the baking products. First put the prepared meat on a greased baking sheet. Top with finely chopped garlic and, if desired, chopped onions. After that, thin slices of potatoes are added and the whole structure is sprinkled with cheese. Before applying the cheese layer, products can be flavored with mayonnaise, and, if desired and taste, replace cheese with feta cheese, and mayonnaise with sour cream. If you want to add tomatoes to the dish, then they should be placed on potato wedges. You can also add fried mushrooms to the meat in French. They should also be spread over potatoes.

Ingredients:
- Meat - 1 kg (meat can be any, in my case - pork)
- Potatoes - 2-3 pcs. depending on the size
- Garlic - 3-5 pcs.
- Hard cheese - 200 g
- Mayonnaise - 50 g
- Mustard - 1 tsp
- Soy sauce - 2-3 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 tsp or to taste
- Ground black pepper - 0.5 tsp or to taste
Cooking French Meat with Potatoes
1. Wash the meat and wipe it well with a paper towel. Then cut it into slices about 1.5 cm thick across the grain.
2. Lightly beat each piece of meat with a hammer on both sides.
3. Prepare the marinade. Combine in a deep bowl that will hold all the meat: mustard, soy sauce, black pepper, salt and any spices to taste. I added nutmeg. Also, the following spices are suitable here: ginger powder, basil greens (fresh or dried), suneli hops, a mixture of Italian herbs.
4. Stir the sauce thoroughly.
5. Put pieces of meat in a container with marinade and mix well. Cover the dishes with cling film and leave to marinate while you prepare the rest of the food.
6. Peel the potatoes, wash and cut into thin rings of 3 mm. It can also be grated on a coarse grater. This is a matter of taste. Grate the cheese on a coarse grater. Peel and chop the garlic.
7. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Although this can be done at will. I only use it to make it easier to wash the baking sheet. Top with pieces of meat and sprinkle with finely chopped garlic.
8. Place potato slices on the meat. You can adjust its amount yourself. I decided to make the dish more meaty, so I added a couple of it. But you can lay out the potato slices in several layers, smearing each with mayonnaise.
9. Top the potatoes with mayonnaise. Also adjust its amount yourself. Love fatty foods, brush the potatoes with a generous layer of mayonnaise, limit yourself to such food - a few drops will be enough.
10. Grind the potatoes with grated cheese.
11. Heat the oven to 180 degrees and bake the dish for 30 minutes.
