What is exfoliation? Can peeling be used for dry skin care? Indications and contraindications for the cleansing procedure. Homemade recipes. Peeling for dry skin is a procedure during which the top layer and keratinized dying particles are exfoliated and removed. The English name for exfoliation, literally "peel", translates as "scrape" or "sand". The method of cleansing the skin was used before our era, in Ancient Egypt, using acidified wine as an aggressive substance. The active ingredient in this peel is tartaric acid. It allows you to get rid of the first wrinkles, increase skin elasticity, reduce pigmentation and the rate of age-related changes, eliminate acne (outside the stage of inflammation) and post-acne scars, and improve the smoothness of the skin.
Description and composition of peeling for dry skin
Traditionally, it is believed that dry sensitive skin needs nourishment and hydration, but the removal of the top layer occurs automatically. This is a misconception - when caring for this type of dermis, peeling is one of the mandatory procedures.
Dry skin is the result of insufficient sebum production. But a dense layer of keratinized cells interferes with the replenishment of cosmetics, it complicates the supply of nutrient and moisturizing components. A vicious circle arises: the surface layer cracks and peels off due to dehydration, but it is impossible to free the sebaceous glands from contamination and nourish it - the slightest mechanical stress causes injury. Gentle peeling removes "old" skin scales and releases healthy elastic tissue, stimulating the acceleration of peripheral blood supply.
Types of peels for dry skin:
- Moisturizing … It is used for constant feeling of tightness after washing or removing cosmetics. After cleansing, the skin cells are saturated with moisture, the membranes are sealed, and dehydration is eliminated. It is recommended that the sessions be carried out in late spring, before the heat.
- Cleaning … It helps to get rid of the layer of keratinized scales mixed with particles of dust and cosmetics, the remains of the vital activity of opportunistic microorganisms.
- Grinding … It is carried out with peeling of the outer layer of the dermis or with increased pigmentation. During the procedure, aesthetic defects are eliminated.
There is another type of peeling for dry skin - therapeutic. It is done when spider veins, subcutaneous infiltrates appear, with severe swelling. Carried out in salon conditions, the composition includes drugs. Homemade peels for dry skin include:
- Pitted berries - strawberries, raspberries, red and black currants, blackberries, wild strawberries … The berries contain mild abrasive particles and a complex of acids that help soften the stratum corneum: fruit, salicylic, glycine, aspartic. Salicylic acid is used as an additional ingredient to restore skin firmness and eliminate dehydration (fluid loss).
- Fruits - apples, apricots, peaches, plums … These fruits also contain acids and a vitamin complex - mainly vitamin C. There is more acetic acid in apples and plums - the chemical effect is more pronounced. Apricots and peaches are softer, which has a beneficial effect on hypersensitive skin.
- Dairy and fermented milk products - yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese … Gentle cleansing occurs due to the content of lactic acid in the composition. From this group, cottage cheese should be separately distinguished - in combination with aggressive acidic ingredients, it provides maximum protection for delicate skin.
- Cane sugar … This product contains a high amount of glycolic acid. If you cannot buy cane sugar, you can use grapes or sugar beets for glycolic peels (the content of glycolic acid in these products is lower).
- Raw potatoes, white cabbage, pumpkin … The products contain enzymatic and peptide components. They prevent damage to the surface of the skin, saturate the upper layers of the dermis with useful substances at the cellular level, and normalize the water-electrolyte balance. The same complex, only of a more pronounced action, is found in exotic fruits - kiwi, papaya and pineapple.
- Carrots and cucumber … These vegetables stimulate cell regeneration, are used in the presence of microcracks, with a tendency of the skin to cracking.
- Honey … It has a regenerating, cleansing, exfoliating and antimicrobial effect, and is a natural antiseptic.
- Cosmetic clay … In case of increased dryness, it is recommended to use blue and green clay. Blue - stops the development of inflammatory processes and fights against increased pigmentation, green - prevents dehydration and restores tone.
- Semolina, oatmeal or rolled oats, coffee grounds … These soft abrasive particles help to remove the stratum corneum without injury.
The choice of peeling composition for dry skin depends on the underlying problems. The most effective action is provided by complex products that simultaneously improve the quality of the skin and accelerate metabolic processes.
The benefits of home peels for dry skin
The main positive properties of home peeling are affordability and painlessness. During the session, you can independently adjust the depth and time of exposure, and if painful sensations appear, interrupt the procedure. It is always possible to choose a suitable method and composition for yourself, excluding the development of allergic reactions.
Benefits of peeling for dry skin:
- The permeability of the upper layer of the epidermis is improved, the saturation of cells with nutrients and moisture is facilitated;
- Peeling is eliminated (in 1 session), post-acne scars disappear;
- The complexion is evened out;
- The quality of the leather is improved - the texture becomes smooth;
- The development of age-related changes is arrested - cell division of the basal layer is stimulated.
If you choose the right composition, then the duration of exposure will remain 1-1.5 months, and only its owner will know that the skin is dry.
Contraindications to home peels for dry skin
Contraindications to exfoliation with increased dryness of the epidermis can be divided into absolute and relative.
The absolute, when it is impossible to carry out cleansing sessions, regardless of the state of the body, include:
- Chronic skin diseases with constant exacerbations - psoriasis, eczema, ichthyosis;
- New formations in the field of processing;
- Couperosis - vascular network or spider veins in the problem area, close adherence of blood vessels, which is possible for pinpoint bleeding;
- Diseases in which symptoms may develop - clouding of consciousness, seizures, surges in blood pressure;
- Hypertrichosis - increased hair growth;
- Oncological diseases.
Relative contraindications:
- Very thin, dry skin with increased sensitivity;
- Purulent-inflammatory process, including acne in the acute stage;
- Herpes infection at the stage of relapse;
- Damage to the skin;
- Pregnancy and lactation;
- Dermatological diseases of an infectious nature.
If you are allergic to the components of the composition, you can always find a suitable option for yourself - in the recipes for home cosmetics there is a wide range of ingredients for hypersensitive skin.
Preparation for peeling for dry skin
Restoration of moisture access to tissues with dry skin is carried out using surface procedures, without total removal of the top layer. To avoid injuries - edema, redness, microdamage, it is necessary to carry out preliminary preparation.
Algorithm of preparatory measures:
- Before the procedure, you need to provide the skin with maximum rest for a week - to abandon all manipulations with the face: cleansing from mildews, removing blackheads, etc. When separate flaky areas appear, they are simply moistened as much as possible. If you have a cosmetic grinding machine at home, you can walk over the defect using cosmetic milk as an aid.
- All week after the removal of cosmetics, cosmetics containing glycolic acid are applied to the face. The body itself produces such acid, so there is no need to fear that irritation will appear. Recommended creams with glycolic acid: Laura, Azelik, D Oliva.
- If you plan to peel with glycolic acid, use a daily moisturizer to prepare it. Requirements for it - it must be completely absorbed without leaving a greasy film on the face.
Home procedures combine chemical (acidic) and mechanical effects. Acidic acid dissolves household impurities and stratum corneum, and mechanical helps to cleanse.
Which peel is best for dry skin
It is possible to choose which remedy is better only after evaluating the result. If dry skin after peeling has become tender, velvety, the feeling of discomfort and tightness has disappeared, we can conclude that this particular composition has a beneficial effect, and when you urgently need to put your face in order, you should give it preference.
Peeling for dry skin with oatmeal
Boiled oat flakes or flour act gently, gently peel off keratinized scales, and auxiliary ingredients nourish and moisturize the skin. Oatmeal recipes:
- Hercules and cucumber … Flakes of Hercules in the amount of 2 tablespoons are poured with boiling water and allowed to boil for 5-6 minutes. Then the water is drained, leaving so much to get a mushy structure. Fresh cucumber is grated. Mix porridge of boiled Hercules flakes with 2 tablespoons of cucumber gruel along with cucumber juice.
- Oat flour and milk … Oatmeal (2 tablespoons) or finely ground raw oatmeal in the same amount are mixed with heavy heavy cream or curdled milk until mushy and allowed to stand to swell and soften the abrasive particles. The mixture is ready to use in 10 minutes.

Berry peeling combines mechanical and chemical effects on the skin. Strawberries contain a whole complex of acids - fruit, aspartic, salicylic, and drupes play the role of abrasive particles.
Berry peel recipes:
- Currants and strawberries … Mix a tablespoon of red currants and strawberries, add a few raspberries or blackberries, knead in mashed potatoes.
- Strawberry milk … Knead 3-4 large juicy berries, pour in 2 tablespoons of fat milk (can be replaced with sour cream). Diluted to a mushy state.

After applying the formulations with blackberries, the skin darkens a little, so the procedure should be done in the evening.
Peeling for dry sensitive skin with honey
Honey is suitable for winter cleansing - it is a natural antiseptic and helps restore local immunity.
Recipes for compositions with honey:
- Honey-oatmeal … Mix in a tablespoon of liquid natural honey and oat flour. Beat the egg yolk separately, and only then combine with the sticky mixture.
- Honey-fruit … Combine a teaspoon of banana gruel and grated apple, add a teaspoon of cream, a tablespoon of honey and half a teaspoon of semolina. Allow to stand for 3 minutes, so that the semolina swells a little in the fruit juice.
- Honey-oil … Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid honey and olive oil, heat in a water bath to body temperature, add a teaspoon of coffee grounds.
Peeling honey can be combined with crushed oatmeal and sour cream.
If you need to quickly remove peeling, then the skin is simply wiped with candied honey, adding a teaspoon of olive oil to it, without adding abrasive particles.
Peeling recipes for dry skin with coffee
If the skin is dry, only coffee grounds are used as abrasive particles.
Recipes for compositions with coffee:
- Coffee grounds … The coffee beans are ground finer than usual and the beverage is brewed. The thickened, until it dries, is applied to the face.
- Coffee and milk mixture … Mix equal amounts of coffee grounds and fat milk or cream.
- Honey and coffee composition … The coffee grounds are combined with honey - in equal amounts.
- Coffee and curd composition … Well-boiled coffee grounds are whipped in a blender with fatty non-crumbly cottage cheese in a 2: 1 ratio (or grind until completely homogeneous with a fork).
Coffee grounds are a fairly hard abrasive, so the interval between procedures should be at least 2 weeks.
Peeling for dry skin with cottage cheese
The cottage cheese contains lactic acid. By combining curd with abrasive particles, an effective complex cleaning can be carried out.
Cottage cheese peeling recipes:
- Curd-fruit … Mix a tablespoon of milk, fat cottage cheese and a teaspoon of orange and lemon zest.
- Mix of curd with exotic fruits … The action is chemical, there is a slight burning sensation. A tablespoon of avocado gruel is combined with the same amount of fatty cottage cheese and a teaspoon of pineapple juice is added.
- Honey-curd … Candied honey is added to the dense moist cottage cheese - the volumes are equal, mix thoroughly to obtain a granular paste.
- Glycolic … Cottage cheese and cane sugar - 2 tablespoons each - beat with a blender until the consistency of a granular paste.
When applying formulations with a chemical action, you should step back from the eye area a little more than when using mixtures without components with pronounced activity.
How to peel dry skin
The cleansing session begins after preliminary preparation of the face.
The procedure is carried out according to the following algorithm:
- Wash with soap or soap foam. It is necessary to get rid of all residues of cosmetics and household dust.
- Apply the homemade composition in a circular motion, along the massage lines for 2-3 minutes, performing a slight rotational movement with your fingertips so that it is absorbed.
- After 10 minutes, the peeling is removed, washed off with water and detergent - first warm and then cold to close the pores. If an aggressive composition is selected, then a neutralizer is used. When applying home formulations, a neutralizer is not needed.
- After removing the stratum corneum, the fresh surface layer is fed with useful substances - external influences are not able to change the cycle of sebum production. To nourish and moisturize, a nourishing mask is applied - preferably an oil mask. If this stage is neglected, the effect of the peeling lasts no longer than 5 days.
- After removing the mask, they are guided by their own feelings. If the tightness is not felt, you can do without the cream.
Peeling products should be alternated so as not to develop a habit of the composition.
The frequency of the rejuvenating procedure with increased dryness is no more than 1 time in 10-15 days. In order for the effect of the peeling to last longer, it is advisable to cleanse the face with hydrophilic oils before going to bed - if they are not available, use vegetable oils. After oil cleansing, they are washed with an infusion of medicinal herbs and only then a nourishing cream is applied.
