Blinds are a practical thing as they rarely get dirty. For their production, materials are used that are susceptible to moisture and cleaning agents. There are canvases that require dry cleaning using a vacuum cleaner or brush. But, despite the technology and material of manufacture, during operation, the surface of the lamellas and components accumulate dust and dirt. Therefore, proper care for blinds and mechanisms will give them a beautiful appearance and will trouble-free perform their direct work - to protect from the sun.
Before choosing a cleaning method, you need to read the instructions that will help you cope with their care yourself. The blinds need to be cleaned depending on the type and material made. Let's consider each of them.
How to care for blinds made of different materials?
Plastic
The most unpretentious to care for are plastic blinds. They can be washed with water, dishwashing detergent, dry cleaned, washed and vacuumed. To do this, they are closed, lowered into the bath and the slats are wiped. However, such blinds do not create comfort and are not very relevant for a home interior. This is the best option for medical institutions.
Aluminum
Another option for undemanding blinds is aluminum blinds. They are cared for, as well as plastic construction. They are also washed, wiped with a dry cloth, and cleaned with various abrasive-free cleaning agents. But it is better to wipe them with a sponge dipped in soapy water. At the same time, make sure that water does not fall on the eaves mountings. You can also vacuum these blinds.
Bamboo
Natural products made from bamboo and wood do not tolerate wet maintenance, even if they are lacquered. It is not recommended to wash them, especially with soap products, since under the influence of cleaning agents and water they will crack, change color and deform. You need to take care of them dry, for example, with a feather brush or vacuum cleaner. Therefore, when washing windows, consider these features and make sure that no water gets on the bamboo.
Textile
Fabric blinds rarely get dirty, and besides, they are not recommended to be washed frequently. In their manufacture, the blinds are impregnated with a special agent that will wear off if washed frequently. They will look ugly and get dirty on a regular basis. Wipe the polyester fabric accessory with a damp cloth. But water is not applied to a shiny surface, otherwise, after drying, stains will remain on the blinds. Use a silk cloth to clean them.
If it is heavily soiled, remove the blinds, roll it up and soak for a couple of hours in warm soapy water. At the same time, do not rub them with anything, so as not to damage the layers. After this procedure, rinse and hang on the cornice to dry. Do not wring, throw over the rope, or iron. The manufacturer does not recommend washing the blinds in a washing machine.
Blinds-pleated (pleated)
Pleated blinds are a special design that looks like an accordion. They are made of paper, cardboard and fabric, which are impregnated with a special compound and impart rigidity and water resistance. For this reason, they are not washed or washed, but only dry cleaning is used: they are wiped with a dry cloth, vacuumed or dry-cleaned.
Rolled (curtains)
All of the above materials are used for roller blinds: wood, plastic, metal, paper, fabric. They have a different design: the lamellas are not assembled into a plane, but horizontally twisted into a roll. Therefore, the chosen care for them depends on the source material. It is most convenient to vacuum such a roll, because as it is cleaned, it can be unwound and rolled. Most often, roller blinds are made of fabric. And as stated above, the fabric is treated with a special protective compound against stretching, fading and dust repelling. Therefore, they are rarely looked after. They are recommended to be cleaned with a dry brush, vacuum cleaner or dry cleaning. Damp cleaning can damage and deform the fabric. In this case, the box of cassette roller blinds is wiped with a damp cloth.
Cassette horizontal
Cassette horizontal blinds are dismantled from the window sashes. Then they are washed in a bathtub with soapy water. At the same time, make sure that no water gets into the system of the upper cornice.
Despite the good performance and practicality, the blinds need timely maintenance, which helps to preserve the original shape of the lamellas, the color and functionality of the mechanisms. Maintenance is easy and often comes down to a simple cleaning with a damp cloth. In some cases, more serious measures are required behind the canvas.
