The origin of Burmilla and the general standard, character traits, animal care, how to feed Burmese cats, health and description of kitten nursing. Burmilla (Burmilla) - English breed of cats with a pleasant appearance, but its origin is completely random, so to speak by chance. But this does not in the least confuse connoisseurs of beautiful and exotic cats.
The origin of the exotic breed
In England, in the eighties, a noble lady named Miranda lived a lilac Burmese cat - Bambina. Her husband was also a feline lover. His wife decided to surprise him, and on his Angel Day she gave a handsome cat - Jemari, a Persian chinchilla breed.
While the family was solving their urgent household and work problems, their pets were busy getting to know each other. Love has its own laws … Suddenly, it was suddenly discovered that the cat was expecting offspring!
When the fluffy lumps were born, the couple were amazed at the appearance of their unusual coat and the shade of their eyes. The Baroness not only raised temperamental beauties, but also decided to found a new species. Having selected two suitable females in her opinion - Gemma and Galatea, in 1981, their selection began. Having crossed not only the baleen, but also the name of the two breeds, a new variety was born - Burmilla (BUL). Geneticist Roy Robinson assisted and provided professional advice on the breeding of the species.
In 1984, the exterior standard was adopted and the first nursery was founded. Then these cats are brought to Denmark, having opened a second breeder's club. In 1996, they were recognized by the Cat Federation (WCF), twelve years later - by the World Felinological Organization (TICA). In 2008, Australian breeders took up the exterior of these animals. Six years later, the breed is highly regarded by the International Organization for New Cat Species (CFA). In the modern world, Burmilla is known, and they are engaged in it in the countries of the European Union. In the former states of the USSR, there are still few owners of Burmillas.
Burmilla exterior standard
Over the years of breeding work, the external of the animal has only improved. The fruit of "forbidden love" turned out to be very cute, compact and elegant. In these handsome men everything is in moderation.
The head of Burmilla cats is of moderate size, the outlines are soft. The forehead in profile from the base of the nose begins to round out. The cheekbones are wide. The muzzle is small, short, not pointed, wider at the base. The transition from muzzle to head is quite sharp. The cheeks are tightly pressed. The chin is well defined.
The eyes are large, rounded almond-shaped, widely spaced. Summed up by a dark pattern. The look is very unusual. Colors range from pale to bright green and amber shades. In young individuals, a yellowish tint is accepted. Burmillas with other eye socket colors are disqualified.
The ears are not large, and not small, slightly tilted forward - the cat seems to be listening to something. Rounded at the tips. Set wide apart.
At first glance, the body seems soft and graceful, but in close contact with the animal, the body is average, knocked down, mesomorphic. The muscles of the thoracic region are massive, rounded. The back is in a straight line between the shoulder and the croup. The neck is short and dense. The cobby or oriental type is a disadvantage. Burmillas' weight varies from 3, 8 to 6, 9 kg.
In relation to the body, the limbs of the representatives of this breed are rather refined, but not long, the hind legs are slightly higher than the front ones. The paws are small, roundly elongated. The tail is thicker at the base, tapering towards the tip. The size is acceptable from the average, and slightly larger.
The fur of Burmilla cats is short, slightly protruding - there is little undercoat. Hair of basic light silver shades at the end is darker (brown-chocolate, cream-coffee, orange-red, lilac-blue). The back is always colored darker, and the throat, chest and tummy are the lightest. A distinctive feature of Burmese cats is a dark smoky contour around the eyes, nose and lips. Individuals are disqualified when tabby patterns are present in the main colors.
There are four types of color:
- shaded (chocolate brown and lilac blue);
- smoky (black or chocolate);
- uniform color (black tricolor, creamy milk, black British, Bombay);
- brindle (speckled black or speckled blue).
Features of the character of Burmilla
Cats of this breed are especially suitable for people-aesthetes. Burmillas are so interesting in appearance that some of them are models for artists' paintings and photographs.
A cat with a great temperament that any person will adore. A wonderful company for singles, families and seniors. This is a companion cat. Loyal animals will follow you literally on your heels. Burmillas respect their master, and they themselves behave very dignified, aristocratic.
They are universal, moderately showing calmness, activity, and curiosity - the golden mean. Not whimsical in terms of detention. They can also live in a small apartment. They are not hasty and do not require special attention. At the same time, they are very affectionate, sociable, good-natured. They love to soak up the hands of the owner, to be stroked, scratched their tummy. They are very obedient animals. Sometimes they like to be outdoors.
When they are alone, they get bored and depressed. When you come home, your furry friend will always be waiting for you at the front door. But Burmillas like to play with objects more than with people. You need to talk to cats of this breed, they love to communicate. They calmly relate to other pets of the dwelling - they are not conflicting.
Burmilla care
- Wool. Courting is relatively easy. The short, shiny coat is not very long but is close to the body, so it can roll off. It is enough to comb the pet out once in seven, ten days to remove skin discharge. They bathe Burmilla once a month with shampoos for short-haired cats.
- Ears, claws. To prevent ear diseases, cats are regularly examined and the ear cavities are cleaned. Clean with ear sticks dipped in specialized cleaners. To grind off claws, and prevent damage to furniture, it is better to get a claw. It is better to accustom an animal to a strictly designated place for this, from childhood.
- Feeding. Can be fed with special hard or soft food. Some people prefer natural feeding. Be sure to provide the Burmese with the necessary vitamins.
- Toilet training. They are accustomed to the tray, from kitten age. Murziki are very smart. Several times it is enough to follow the burmilla cat and show where the toilet is.
Burmilla health and kitten care
A relatively healthy breed. May be prone to allergies. Prone to polycystic kidney disease. The disease was inherited from Persian cats. The breeding pair must be checked for disease in order to prevent the birth of sick animals. For this, an echogram of the kidneys is made. Burmillas with these lesions are discarded, and are not subjected to breeding. In the aftermath of their entire life, such individuals are under veterinary supervision.
Burmilla's children are unusual. When they just begin to crawl out of the birth nest, the cat is very nervous at first - collects them back. They play, they jump. They run for half a day, and the same amount of rest - they grow. Sometimes they sleep together, sometimes separately. Joy will reign in the house around the clock. You won't be bored.
Tips for Buying Burmilla
If you decide to acquire a Burmilla, then it is better to do it in European countries. In the former cities of the USSR, this breed is rare. The animal is expensive in cost, so be very responsible when choosing a kitten. Ask the breeder about all the parameters of the future pet. Don't deal with unskilled breeders. The average price of a kitten for a purchase is about 30 thousand rubles (13 thousand hryvnia), but the final price may depend on many factors.
