Manufacturing of a plasterboard box for a heating radiator, the advantages of the selected material, the preparatory stage, marking the location of the structure, manufacturing its frame, plasterboard sheathing and finishing the product. The result of the marking should be a rectangle or square drawn on the wall, depending on the length of the heater. When the bottom of the box is located on the floor, three additional lines define its boundaries.
Making a frame for a battery box from gypsum plasterboard
The installation of the frame should be started with the installation of the guide profiles UW 27x28. They should be located along the marking lines marked on the wall, floor and under the windowsill. In order to create the depth of the box, the UW 27x28 profiles should be fixed to the adjacent surfaces with their open parts outward. The process of their installation looks like this:
- The guide profile must be attached to the marking line and through it with a small drill using a drill or screwdriver, mark several fastening points on the wall. After that, the profile should be removed.
- Then, according to the marks, holes for plastic dowels should be drilled using a perforator and a 6 mm drill.
- Insert dowels into the holes obtained, attach the guide profile to the line with both shelves outward until the holes coincide and fix it with self-tapping screws using a screwdriver.
- The spacing of the fasteners should be 150-200 mm, it is better to fix the edges of the profile first, and then its middle part.
- In a similar way, you need to fix the UW profiles 27x28 mm on the floor and under the window. To install the profile under the windowsill, use screws no longer than the thickness of the board.
- When installing the guides between the base and the outer part of the profiles, it is necessary to lay a shock-absorbing tape, which will damp the vibrations of the structure and maintain its reliable fastening to the screws.
After the installation of the UW 27x28 profiles, it is necessary to install the CW 60x27 channels, which ensure the depth of the box. The work is done in this order:
- CW 60x27 profiles should be cut into pieces of the required length.
- In places of folds on both edges, it is necessary to make cuts of 4-5 cm.
- Then the middle of the profile must be bent down, and its sides must be cut to the width of the shelf.
- After that, the sections of the channels should be connected at right angles to the edges of the vertical guides. The ends of the segments should be facing the inside of the room.
At the final stage of creating the frame, the free ends of the upper and lower sections of the channel must be connected with CW 60x27 profiles. Fastening of all metal parts of the base of the box must be done with small self-tapping screws for metal of the "bug" type with tips made in the form of a drill. The finished frame must have the necessary rigidity and not vibrate from the slightest touch. If it is not enough, the structure should be additionally reinforced with intermediate profiles along the perimeter and diagonal along the sides.
Sheathing the frame of the battery box with plasterboard sheets
The process of installing the gypsum board on the frame of the box is absolutely not complicated. It is executed in the following sequence:
- A sheet of drywall must be alternately applied to the sides of the frame, tracing them with a pencil and marking the places of its cut on the gypsum board.
- After that, the sheet must be cut into pieces of appropriate shapes and sizes. It is convenient to do this with an ordinary clerical knife, using a metal ruler.
- The finished parts should be fixed with screws on those parts of the frame for which they were cut from the sheet. GKL fasteners should be performed with a step of 100-150 mm.
- In order not to get confused with the design of the corners of the box, it is recommended to immediately install each cut out part in its place.
- In the front of the box, you need to provide a place for a heat shield. Its standard dimensions are 600x600, 600x900, 600x1200 mm. The hole in the wall for it should be slightly smaller. The screen is inserted into the box after finishing it.
When fastening sheets to the frame, you do not need to apply excessive efforts when screwing in the screws, their caps should be slightly recessed into the thickness of the material, but no more. Damage to the outer shell of the sheet will lead to a weakening of its attachment and subsequent destruction of the material in this place.
Features of the finish of the plasterboard box for the battery
After completing the assembly of the battery box, you can proceed to its finishing. First, you need to cut the seams between the drywall sheets a little, prime them and then putty using a reinforcing tape-serpyanka.
After that, the outer corners of the box must be reinforced with a perforated metal corner. Its installation is carried out using plaster putty and makes it possible to give the corners of the structure a beautiful and regular shape. The recesses on the surface of the box, left by the screw heads, should also be putty. When the composition is dry, the locations of the corners, grooves from fasteners and joints of the gypsum board should be sanded with an abrasive fine-mesh mesh, and then cleaned of gypsum dust.
After that, the entire box must be primed to ensure the adhesion of the base with the finishing material chosen for the design of the product. The resulting surface is quite suitable for wallpapering or tiling. If the box is planned to be painted, then before that it should be completely covered with a layer of starting and then finishing fine-grained putty. After it dries, the surface of the structure must be brought to a perfectly smooth state by grinding, then primed again and painted with enamel in 2-3 layers.
After finishing finishing, a decorative screen must be installed in the box. To fix this lattice, you can use various latches or fix it with the help of spot application of liquid nails, calculating it so that the screen does not fall off spontaneously, but if necessary it would be easy to remove it.

[media = https://www.youtube.com/watch? v = G4wKu3PwPgU] When assembling the box and finishing it, it is important to take into account that it not only disguises the heating radiator, but also serves as a full-fledged element of the interior. Therefore, the design of this detail should correspond to the style of the room. Good luck!
