Ironing clothes seems, at first glance, a very simple household task. All you need is an iron and a couple of things. But what a surprise when clothes that have just been ironed again wrinkle, lose their appearance. To prevent this from happening, you need to know a few simple ironing rules.
For the best ironing result at home, it is best to have an ironing board, temperature controlled iron and steam humidifier available. If the latter function is missing, you can replace it with an ordinary water sprayer.
Remember that it is better to hide all ironed things in a closet, and even more so not to put them in bags right away. They need to be laid out on the surface, wait until they cool down, and then just fold. This way things won't wrinkle. Now let's figure out how to iron things properly.
Ironing rules for various clothes and things
1. Woolen, half-woolen things iron through a damp linen cloth. In this case, the temperature of your iron should be approximately 150-170 ° C. Typically, the thermostat disc is installed opposite the “wool” mark or two dots.
2. Silk fabric must be ironed dry or slightly dry. Be sure to remember that you should iron them only from the wrong side, or through a dry cotton cloth. The iron temperature is approximately 120-130 ° C. If shine appears during ironing seams, thick places on the product, do not rush to be sad. To remove it, you need to hold the clothes over steam, or moisten and wring out, and then dry them again, iron them through the fabric only from the wrong side. It should be remembered that you cannot keep the iron in only one place for a long time or exceed the maximum permissible temperature. 3. Corduroy and varied pile fabric ironed, pre-moistened from the inside out. Such clothes are first placed on a soft bedding, and in order to avoid disturbing the relief of the pattern, you do not need to press hard.
4. Ironing shirts, guide the iron from the corners of the collar directly to the middle of the collar. Already after the moment your things are ironed, it is recommended to hang them on a hanger.
5. Jersey material should be ironed without pressing hard. Otherwise, the products may lose their appearance, they will wrinkle more often. It is advisable to lightly steam these clothes. Unlike many other garments, knitted garments should not be hung on a hanger, but rather left folded.
6. Pants iron through a damp cotton cloth.
7. Velvet, plush things, clothes from faux suede it is better not to iron at all. But instead, you can steam them: turn on the "steam" function on your iron, move the device over the pile at a distance of about 3-5 cm. The front side of such products is also processed with a special brush in the direction of the pile. It is better not to fold these clothes in several parts, this will relieve them of wrinkles.
8. Lining materials, fabrics with patterns are ironed absolutely dry. They are ironed from the front side, into embroidery and patterns - from the inside out, so as not to spoil the whole appearance of the clothes.
9. Cotton and linen clothing before ironing, be sure to moisten a little, otherwise there will be almost no result. Cotton clothes are ironed at a temperature of about 180-190 ° C, and linen clothes are ironed at 200 or 220 ° C.
