If you decide to build a compact bathhouse on your site, then you can do without a rest room. But the dressing room should be present in any case. It protects the steam room from direct exposure to cold air. You can also leave things in it so that they do not get wet. Some combine it with a recreation room, equipping a functional room.
Preparation for the construction of a dressing room
If at the stage of building the bath you did not calculate the dimensions or decided to increase the area of the steam room for equipping a full-fledged dressing room, then the most suitable option would be the construction of a frame structure. A shallow foundation can be installed for it. In addition, it will take a little time to build the walls.
Before making a dressing room with your own hands, you need to calculate the amount of materials required. Traditionally, it is built with wood. In any case, all wood for frames and finishes must be pre-treated with several layers of antiseptic. Otherwise, its service life will be significantly reduced due to the appearance of mold and mildew. It will also not be superfluous to treat the tree with fire-fighting compounds. Especially if the sauna is heated by a traditional wood-burning stove.
For insulation, hygroscopic heat insulators are used, such as stone wool, expanded polystyrene, polyurethane foam. All fasteners must be galvanized. Phosphated elements will not work due to their low moisture resistance.
Do not forget that before you build a dressing room, you need to think over its project. We calculate the optimal area of the room according to the principle of 1, 3 m2 for one person. The width must be more than one meter. The standard sizes of the dressing room are -1, 4x2, 3 meters. But you can make its length arbitrary, especially if you plan to combine the dressing room with the rest room.
When the construction plan is drawn up, we clear the area for the installation of the base.
Installation of the foundation for the dressing room
Installation of a lightweight shallow foundation begins with the removal of fertile soil. In the process, we adhere to the following instructions:
- We dig trenches with a depth of 0.5 meters and a width of 0.3 meters.
- We fill the grooves with sand in several layers, pouring water and carefully ramming.
- We install the formwork according to the dimensions of the dug trench.
- We place reinforcement with a cross section of 0.8-1 cm in the resulting structure. Around the edges we fix the pins made of galvanized steel, which will later become the basis for the lower strapping.
- Fill the base with concrete and let it dry. If the weather is hot, then it needs to be sprayed with water.
After complete drying, you need to cover a layer of roofing material and you can proceed to further construction.
Installation of the dressing room frame
Before installing the wooden base, all its elements must be treated with a fire retardant and antiseptic. This will extend the life of the frame.
We carry out work according to the following algorithm:
- We install the lower harness made of beams with a section of 10 cm2.
- We fix the corner posts. We check every single detail with a building level.
- We install intermediate racks with a step of 0.8 meters.
- We make the upper harness from beams with a section of 8-10 cm2.
- We fix the braces at the corners. They will give the structure additional rigidity.
- We fix the logs for the floor. For this purpose, we use unedged boards.
- We fix separate boards for the construction of the frame of the door and window openings.
- We cover the frame with a hydro and windproof membrane.
- We carry out external cladding.
When choosing a room project, keep in mind that for a long time the door to the bathhouse was located on the south side. Most often it is made with a height of 1, 6-1, 7 meters, and a width of no more than 0.7 meters.
Roof construction for the dressing room
Often, when completing the dressing room, they make a pitched roof, attaching it to the main one. You can simply extend the main roof over the dressing room.
They do it as follows:
- We install the Mauerlat and floor beams on the supporting boards of the frame.
- We install the extreme rafter elements. At the base of the bath we attach the truss to the pediment.
- We pull the cord between the extreme structures and fix the intermediate rafters in increments of 0, 4-0, 6 meters.
- We fix the vapor barrier membrane from the ridge to the Mauerlat with an overlap of 15-20 cm. We glue the joints with sealing tape.
- We carry out a transverse lathing of beams with a section of 5 cm2.
- We lay the insulation tightly between the lathing bars.
- We fix the waterproofing film on top with a construction stapler. We carefully glue the joints.
- We fill strips with a thickness of 2-3 cm to ensure a ventilation gap.
- We lay the roofing material from top to bottom.
Please note that for a more aesthetic appearance, the dressing room must be covered with the same material as the entire bath.
Ventilation equipment rules in the dressing room
Natural air circulation is provided by window and door openings. The opinions of experts on this issue differ. Some people think that large windows should be provided for good lighting and additional ventilation. Others argue that it is better to make small windows closer to the ceiling to minimize heat loss.
You can choose projects of a dressing room with or without window openings. However, in addition to natural circulation, it is important to consider air outflow and inflow. This is necessary to maintain the microclimate in the bath and create the correct thermal regime.
We make vents according to the following algorithm:
- At the level of 0.5 meters, near the furnace compartment of the stove, we make a hole 15 * 20 cm.
- We cut out a wooden part to size and equip it with a plate with a handle on one side.
- On the opposite wall, diagonally from the first vent, make a second hole of the same size. It should be located about two meters above the floor.
- We equip a similar valve.
The vent plugs must be tight and air-tight when closed.
Thermal insulation work in the dressing room
Correct insulation of the dressing room is necessary for the stability of the temperature in the steam room and to prevent the appearance of condensation. In addition, getting out of a hot steam room onto a cold floor is not entirely comfortable. It is necessary to insulate not only the walls, but also the floor and ceiling.
Floor insulation in the dressing room
If desired, you can equip water, electric and even infrared "warm" floors. However, keep in mind that they are expensive. Masonry of passive insulation (extruded polyurethane foam, stone wool) is considered a budget option. Thermal insulation work is carried out in the following order:
- We fill the beams on the logs for the "rough" floor.
- We put a vapor barrier membrane on top.
- We put insulation between the lags. We make sure that it fits snugly to the frame elements.
- We fix the waterproofing layer with an overlap of 15-20 cm with a construction stapler. We glue the joints with metallized tape.
Remember that it is advisable to treat rough flooring beams and wooden logs with an antiseptic compound to prevent rotting.
Features of thermal insulation of the dressing room ceiling
Competent insulation of the ceiling slab minimizes heat loss, as hot air rises upward. Don't forget about vapor barrier. First of all, the ceiling is sheathed, then the walls.
In the process, we adhere to the following instructions:
- We put basalt wool between the floor beams.
- We fix the foil-clad polyethylene from above with an overlap using strips with a cross section of 2 * 5 cm. The reflective surface should be located inside the room.
- Carefully glue the joints with reinforced tape.
If the use of the attic space is not expected, then a floor ceiling can be made. In this case, sawdust, clay, expanded clay can be used as insulation.
Specificity of warming the walls of the dressing room
Traditionally, a log house is insulated from the inside to preserve its original appearance. Foil materials that can reflect heat are very popular as insulation.
We carry out work in the following sequence:
- We fix the vapor barrier membrane on the wall.
- Fasten on top of a crate of beams with a section of 5 cm2 with a step of 0.5 meters. Please note that the details of the lathing must first be impregnated with antiseptics to protect the wood.
- We put a roll insulation between the individual elements of the frame.
- With a construction stapler we attach foil polystyrene foam on top.
At this stage, all communications should also be brought in and the wiring should be laid in a special corrugated pipe to protect it from moisture.
Interior decoration of the dressing room
When the insulation work is completely finished, you can proceed to finishing. Traditionally, the dressing room is sheathed with wooden clapboard. For this, a tree of both deciduous and coniferous species is suitable. Do not forget that the general style of all bath rooms should be the same or similar.
Floor sheathing in the dressing room
The most moisture resistant wood is considered to be oak and larch. However, even these materials need to be treated with an antiseptic and water-repellent solution to prevent decay.
We carry out the work in the following order:
- On top of the waterproofing layer, we fill beams with a thickness of 3-4 cm in increments of 0.3-0.4 meters.
- We treat the floorboard with a water-repellent liquid and fire retardants.
- We fix it on the beams according to the thorn-groove system with the help of self-tapping screws at the walls, deepening their caps into the base by a few millimeters.
- It is also advisable to install additional covering, for example, rubber mats.
Wall and ceiling decoration of the dressing room
First, the ceiling is sheathed. Do not forget to leave a ventilation gap between the insulation and the finishing material during tiling.
We carry out the sheathing in the following sequence:
- We fill the ceiling with a counter-lattice for fixing the lining.
- We fix the first element opposite the door with a nail hammered into the groove of the part at an angle of 45 degrees.
- We check the level of the evenness of the installation and install the subsequent parts.
- We attach the beams 3-5 cm thick to the foil insulation.
- We begin the installation of the lining from the corner of the wall, hammering in the fasteners in a hidden way, like on the ceiling.
- We install platbands and skirting boards.
If you wish, you can sheathe the walls vertically, horizontally and even diagonally with clapboard.
Exterior decoration of the dressing room
The outer finish of the dressing room must fully match the finish of the entire bath. As a rule, frame wooden structures have a rather aesthetic appearance and do not need additional finishing materials. The finished dressing room can be caulked, sanded, opened with a special varnish or paint suitable for outdoor woodwork. You can also make the exterior decoration of the dressing room and bath using a block house. Such a structure will look like a log house.
In the dressing room for the bath, they usually put a hanger, a shelf for shoes, a mirror, a small table and a bench. If the room is small, then you can install a folding or folding table and benches. Here, after taking the procedures, you can relax and unwind. Therefore, if the dimensions of the room allow, then you can additionally install a small refrigerator and TV.
