The history of breeding the Viennese white rabbit, characteristics, advice on care and maintenance at home, the choice of a healthy animal and its average price. Well, with whom with whom, and with such cute and funny representatives of the animal world, surely everyone is familiar. Someone has been to exhibitions at which they showed the most, that is, various breeds of these amazing animals, someone has seen them in the markets or in pet stores. And many in the villages with their grandmothers live these amazingly beautiful pets, which not only please the eye, but more often than not, no matter how sad and sad it is, they end up on our festive tables.
Who, if not about a rabbit, we can say that this is a universal animal, it is appreciated for many reasons. Some keep him just as a pet, play and look after him. With some, they really live for some time, after which an unpleasant fate awaits them, and someone carries a rabbit on themselves in the winter, in the form of a fur coat made of its soft and fluffy fur.
For a long time, people have become accustomed to the fact that most rabbits are nothing more than a pet and are increasingly more accustomed to keeping them even in apartment conditions. Indeed, these pretty, fluffy and cheerful creatures are able to please the eye with their one external appearance, because it will be difficult to find more beautiful and graceful animals. And watching him even during their meal is always interesting and exciting, not to mention those periods of time when the animals are in a state of activity.
There is one amazing species of these beautiful animals on our planet - this is the Viennese white rabbit. It is quite often recently kept at home. And all thanks to such a unique and inimitable appearance, and of course especially valuable meat and fur, but this is already a surplus of content, you can do without it, just admire your pet, and that's all.
If you suddenly have the thought that you really really want to get yourself this pretty fluffy, you should not take decisive action and rush headlong through all the pet stores and markets. As with any other pet with this Viennese handsome man, some problems, difficulties and troubles may arise, so it would be better to first get to know him more closely, then think carefully and weigh everything, and then you can go in search of a new four-legged companion.
The origin of the Viennese white rabbit
Of course, for the fact that such an amazing animal lives and, one might say, decorates our large planet or even its separate territories, we need to thank Mother Nature, but this time not only her one. The thing is that Wilhelm Muck lived long life for himself, one of his vital interests was (who do you think?) Right - rabbits, he was a breeder. By virtue of his craft, he quite often visited a wide variety of rabbit exhibitions. Having seen enough of the most original and unique rabbits, he was always amazed by the beauty of the Viennese blue rabbit, it is, indeed, an animal of extraordinary beauty, albeit not entirely blue, or rather not at all blue, just his fur coat is painted in a beautiful rich noble gray color scheme, which tends to shimmer light, but clearly visible blueness.
So it seemed to Wilhelm Muck that such blue eyes would look very appropriate in an animal that would be dressed in a white fur coat. And from that moment on, he set out to breed such a representative of a large rabbit family.
Over the course of 15 long years, this purposeful person worked on breeding a new, hitherto unknown breed, and at one point it happened. Approximately in the 10-20s of the last century, a completely new animal was presented to the world in Vienna, which literally managed to produce an extravaganza at all rabbit exhibitions, because this animal was not only painted in perfect pure white color, but also its eyes were blue. In order to achieve the desired result, the Austrian breeder tried to cross two different breeds with each other, they turned out to be the Vienna blue rabbit and the Dutch blue-eyed rabbit, and it finally happened.
But everything would be fine, but not all countries recognized this new representative of the animal world as a separate breed, most countries of the world considered this snow-white miracle just a kind of blue rabbit, only Holland unconditionally agreed that this white blue-eyed fluffy has the right to be independent from a close relative. And so gradually, until the 70s, more and more countries agreed with this assumption, but some, of course, have remained unshakable to this day.
Characteristics of the appearance of the Viennese white rabbit
Well, without much difficulty, one can come to the conclusion that the most important and significant feature of the Viennese eared animal is its shining blue eyes and perfect snow-white fur. The fur coat in which this representative of the rabbit world is dressed is not just beautiful, we can say that it is simply fabulous. In the event that you are lucky enough to see this creation of nature or a very successful selection result, then you cannot help but notice that this animal, as if dressed up in an expensive festive outfit, and he himself is already ready for some significant celebration …
The fur of this cub is very thick, soft and delicate in texture, as if in front of you is not a living creature, but an expensive soft toy. Such amazing "clothes" are painted in the purest white color scheme, on the body of the Viennese rabbit you will not be able to find a single hair of any other color or even shade, and in the sun the fur tends to emit a magical shine, as if it were not animal hair, but a real gloss.
At first glance, it may seem that these natives of Austria are just a lump of fur, they seem very light and airy, but this opinion is very erroneous. By nature, these animals inherited a rather strong and muscular body, which in shape a little resembles a regular, slightly elongated cylinder. Their head is relatively short, but rather large and slightly widened. The muzzle has a characteristic roundness. The head is also not devoid of snow-white fur. The neck is very short in relation to the size of the head and body as a whole.
In addition to everything, these cute little animals have one more decoration - these are their ears, which do not differ in particular subtlety, they, on the contrary, are quite fleshy and the entire back side of the auricles is wrapped in thick snow-white fur. In length, the auditory organs grow no less than 10–12 cm. The limbs of this pretty animal also slightly differ from each other, the front ones have much greater strength than the rear ones, and they themselves are longer.
The optimal body weight of an adult of this white Viennese rabbit averages 4000–5500 grams.
Keeping Viennese white rabbits, grooming
In the event that you live in a private house, it is completely unproblematic to contain such a delightful miracle of nature. The Viennese white rabbit is not only remarkable for its regal appearance, but also for its unpretentiousness, minimal exactingness. These immigrants from Austria have long ago settled quite comfortably on the territory of Russia, and due to the fact that they rather quickly adapt to new living conditions, neither the changeable climate, nor anything else is a hindrance to them, the main thing is that they there was a place to live and to have plenty of food.
The most optimal place of residence for this majestic pet is a rabbitry or an ordinary, but more or less spacious cage. It will not be possible to keep this comrade directly in the house, since, despite all his merits, he has one, but quite a significant drawback - he cannot be trained, like a dog, he cannot even be trained to a litter box. The matter, of course, is the master's and it is up to you to decide, but it is worth noting that living with such a tenant under one roof is a lot of trouble. So it is better for the Viennese rabbit to arrange comfortable apartments on the street and amuse himself with such a favorite.
It is also not desirable that this fluffy live in a shed where there are other animals, since their natural immunity leaves much to be desired and if one of your rabbit's neighbors caught some infectious disease, it will immediately affect this vulnerable creature. … And in a separate and even distant cell, he will be safe.
The personal home of this Austrian tenant should have everything you need for a comfortable and happy life. Straw, hay or even sawdust is perfect as a floor covering for a rabbit abode, on such materials your pet will have a warm and soft rest, and it will be easier for you to clean. First of all, remember that rabbits are animals by their nature that do not just love, they need cleanliness and order, although they themselves do not know how to maintain it. Sometimes you even get the impression that they deliberately create disorder in their homes, if only you once again looked at them for a light, so cleaning their apartment should be done with enviable regularity. It's not even so much about comfort, but about the fact that, in unsanitary conditions, it is not at all difficult for your snow-white friend to acquire some kind of ailment.
In addition, in the house of the white Viennese rabbit there should be a feeder, it is desirable that it never be empty, and a drinking bowl with clean drinking water. The drinking bowl must be carefully attached so that the inhabitant of this dwelling does not manage to turn it over with his beautiful paws, he doesn’t care, but you have to carry out an extraordinary cleaning.
In order for your amazing pet to fully develop and be healthy and completely happy, it is necessary for him to provide a correct balanced diet. The rabbit menu should include green foods, juicy foods, roughage foods and some concentrated food.
Probably the most important food for such an animal as the Viennese rabbit is precisely green food, it can be the most, that is, a variety of herbs, such as alfalfa, clover, peas, corn and many others. As juicy products, you can offer your friend almost all root crops, fruits, vegetables, melons and even silage.
These animals have the opportunity to receive many of the most various vitamins and minerals from roughage, such as hay, straw, tree twigs, in addition, these products also contain a large amount of fiber.
From time to time, especially those periods of the year when there is no such opportunity to get your friend less green food, you can offer him bran, whole milk, whey, mixed feed, fish meal and many other concentrated products. Before feeding your blue-eyed Viennese rabbit another dish, carefully check it for rot or other signs that the product is not fresh, otherwise you risk rewarding your friend with problems with his already fragile health.
Do not forget that no matter how balanced and correct the diet of your snow-white rabbit is, it still needs additional vitamins and mineral complexes. Therefore, periodically go to a veterinary pharmacy and buy specialized drugs there, their cost is small, and the body of your adorable pet will tell you a huge, enormous thank you for this.
With such minimal efforts, you will get not just a pet, but a beautiful graceful decoration of your home, moreover, this live fluffy "attraction" has a very pleasant and friendly character, a manifestation of aggression towards people is to some extent nonsense.
Correct purchase and price of the Viennese white rabbit
The acquisition of any pet is quite a responsible business and this issue should be approached correctly, especially when it comes to a rabbit, so when you come to the nursery, do not hesitate to examine the animal, observe its behavior for a long time and ask the sellers everything that comes to you to the head. Of course, the animals are not to blame that they either got sick or were born with some kind of pathology. But why buy a sick pet? And now it's not even about money, firstly, other residents of your farm can become infected from such an unhealthy individual. And secondly, even if you do not have any more pets, the rabbit you brought home may simply die, and you will blame yourself for irresponsibility and errors in care, while not suspecting that you have come across a knowingly doomed animal. In this case, the problem is your gullibility and naivety.
If you have a healthy representative of Viennese white rabbits in front of you, then you will be surprised how active and nimble this animal is, it jumps quickly and briskly, its legs are even, and its tail is, as they say, with a “pistol”. Take a close look at the dorsal surface of the rabbit's body, a very frequent alarming sign that warns you that there is an unhealthy animal in front of you - this is a slightly bent back. In a healthy animal, the back is slightly rounded, but do not confuse roundness and hunchback.
It is also very important to observe the movements that the crawl makes with its head, it should not have any sudden turns or throwing its head to one side, if you notice this - it is better to leave this animal, in all likelihood, it has some problems with cerebral circulation. You examine the head, look out of the corner of your eye also at the bite, in an animal with a satisfactory state of health, it should be correct, the upper teeth always cover the lower ones.
In no case should there be any bald patches on the fur coat of the Viennese white rabbit. Also remember that the limbs of the rabbit are also covered with gorgeous fur, if in front of you is an animal with bald legs, something is wrong with it.
After you have checked the health status of the animal you liked, proceed to the "interview" with the seller. A responsible and, most importantly, knowledgeable person in his craft will tell you in detail about what vaccinations were given to your future tenant without any difficulty, whether he had any previous health problems. If there were, then how they were eliminated and how they manifested themselves, he can also tell you a little about the parents of this very rabbit. You can also learn in detail about the nature of your rabbit and its taste preferences, so you will speed up the process of the pet's getting used to new living conditions, it is much easier to get accustomed when they immediately start to pamper you with your favorite treats, so the rabbit probably thinks so.
In the event that you are already satisfied with everything, do not forget to take a closer look at the fur of your rabbit, remember that it can only be white and no other, without any ebb and flow. We noticed some brownish hair - it may not be a Viennese rabbit at all.
The average cost of this snow-white fluffy with blue eyes ranges from 700 to 1,500 rubles.
